FG MT Shocks

RE: FG MT Shocks
Losi LST shocks are the best. Much smoother than the FG shocks that came with my kit. I'm using 4 of them and 2 HPI Savage shocks. Since I use a 6 shock setup the LST shocks need either the yellow springs from Team Losi (7.4 lb) or the gunmetal ones from Hot Racing (8.0 lb) Depends how soft you want it and how much preload you want to put on them. The Savage shocks have 4 lb springs but they are only there for added damping and support in the rear. Besides the LST shocks look more scaled to the truck being they are bigger than the FG shocks. I love the better performance. It's pimpin'....;>)

I'm quite happy witht eh stock FG shocks. they just need stronger springs and heavier weight oil in the rears. I'm working on getting my own custom coiled springs that will be dual action a 10 pound mini coil and a 6.5 pound longer coil with a spacer lock ring between them on the shock body. SHould vastly improve running status and be a very unique design.

yeah, but now I've worn the layshaft gear teeth down to the point that they won't mate up to the dif nicely anymore and "bark" at me when I womp on it as the teeth miss the proper mesh.
I have a few more vids I just need to edit and upload them.

The LST shocks are a bit longer and also wider than the FG shocks which might give you a little challenge with fitting them in without rubbing anything in the process. My model is the original Monster Beetle which is basically a Marder with a different body, gearing, and monster tires. It originally had one shock at each corner. I used a pair of lower arms from a H.A.R.M. buggy (slightly cut out) for the front upper arms on the FG, a custom handmade shock tower, and the rear ones are attached in back of the uppermost holes in the stock rear shock tower and the rear mount post on the arms. Much better than stock in both performance and appearance. Has a beefier look now. Mmm.....beef...

RE: FG MT Shocks
There were some photos of a FG stadium truck on here at one time with the Losi shocks. He had one on each wheel. Elcon has some alloy shocks out now that are suppose to work on the FG's. I have not tried them yet but going too.

When I buy a digi-camera (hopefully sometime soon) I will be glad to post some pics for you. I had to do a lot of modding to get the front to work, but I'm much happier for it.

Upper front arms from a H.A.R.M. buggy (slightly reworked), handmade aluminum front brace (easy), handmade aluminum front shocktower (difficult), hand made nylon front body mount adapter (moderate), and handmade brake cable holders at the calipers completed my front end conversion. The rear end was easy. Just some longer hardware to mount the shocks and they dropped right in. Suspension is much more adjustable now and is silky smooth. If you have the monster chassis with 8 shocks it might be easier or harder to convert to the LST shocks, but once you do you will be glad you did! When my budget allows I will get a new camera and post pics. Maybe someday I will make more of these parts. Concentrating on new type of shock damping system, new type of differential, and a better more affordable 4wd conversion system for the FG whenever I actually get the spare time for such things.

Thanks for the pics, those are serious shocks... I can barely imagine them on a nitro lol. I guess im used to Savages an Maxx's with smaller shocks, and all the 1/8s ive owned have had 8 shocks.
Look great on the FG MT though, how do you find the driving?
And nice bumpers

They drive great. Much smoother than the original setup and over 7 inches of travel at the wheel! That's a soda can on top of an aerosol can top.
Thanks, I made the bumpers out of PVC pipe warmed with a heat gun and formed with some blocks of wood. They are filled with a blue high impact foam and can take a serious hit!

Lauterbacher makes a tremendous line of aftermarket tuning parts for FG.
The quality is night and day compared with others.
Here is a pic of the replacement shock set for the FG MT5 line.
