Large Scale Racing including TFT Race
OK on some of the threads people are starting ot ask about goodies (pipes / Motors / Heads) sold by companies for your large scale off road use. Problem is there is really no way to really know the scat from the must have because there is no real data or race results to judge by.
Even the ads on RCU make claims they do not have any way of justifying how is the Oneil Brothers be a leader in large scale motors when no one who races 1:5 scale uses them?
Lets see the results with the claims.
Now to my point I want to see some large scale off road racing and I think RCU should take the lead here and push for a series on 08 for large scale off-road.
I am known for putting my money where my big fat mouth is I will rent the SV speedway for a few weekends in 08 if RCU can put a series together.
(I will pay the track fees you need to run the races)

RE: Large Scale Off Road Challange
Where is SV speedway located?
Are there other tracks that are designed for 5th scale off road?
I would like to help sponsor of events like this.
We have done sponsorships in the past and they do well for us.

RE: Large Scale Off Road Challange
Hi Guys,
There are lots of off road series run in Europe already, infact there is a sort of "european invitational" going on in Holland this coming weekend run by the ORCF (off road club Friesland).
120 drivers from all over Europe, and next year sees the first proper year where EFRA run a European championship over 6 round in 6 different countries ( i think it's 6 but I can confirm later).
You Guys have IFMAR in the States so how about asking them for help??

What EDDDY said....ARE there tracks made for 1/5th scale OFF road cars in the the states? I mean TRUE 1/5th scale tracks? Not 1/8th scale buggies tracks that your going to try and hold 8-10 baja's on cause those are not going too be wide enough..JMO, and is there something going too be more centrally located for this event?so most of us can attend this?[8D]

Yeah its got to be a pretty good sized track and not just flat surfaces needs jumps on it, our local club here made a track and it's pathetic for a gaser to run on it, it's just way small you can't make the turns at all cause of how small it is, its even tough with a nitro on it....bmx tracks are pretty ideal for 1/5 scale i've found, it's just tough finding one not loaded with bikes.

There is no real standard in the large scale off road community right now... The Baja is 5th scale, the Marder is 6th scale...
I have addblock going, I don't see adds so I have no idea what O'Neil's claims are...

RE: Large Scale Off Road Challange
Large scale racing in the states is in its infancy, and will soon be growing larger. We are planning a 1/5 scale track that will open in January. After a while it will become mainstream and there will be certain winning combinations that will justify claims and weed out the exageraters, just like in the 1/8 scale world. Give it time.

1, 26cc Max Zenoha or equivelent
2, 2WD rear wheel drive only with no gearbox/2 speed
3, tyres must be comercially available to everyone with no ice spike ect.
4, 250mtr track length X 4mtr width or as close as you can get it.
They may not be word for word to whats in the book but you get the idea.
We allow HPI Baja to run alongside marders/baja/monster trucks, leopard and hoermann ect and we also allow 4X4's like the mcd race runner. They would all run together but under 2 different championships for 2wd or 4wd.
If you'd like any more info I'd be only too pleased to help, just drop me a pm and I'll send you loads of links to club sites and organisation to give you all some ideas.

I know some guys that just took over and turned the BMX track here in Sacramento (Praire City off road park actualy) into a 1/8 - 1/5 scale off road track. It has alot of promise, and might force me to get into 1/5 scale

And our company would love to be invloved if need be.
Hope to hear more on this soon!

RE: Large Scale Off Road Challange
There needs to be structure to a championship. The first thing to do would be to sort out some kind of comittee. You need to know the availability of tracks, set rules in place and give people a few points of contact or even a website devoted to largescale off road RACING in the States.
Like I said in an earlier post, EFRA is running a european championship this year and if things go as well for you guys as I hope they do then maybe there is a chance that a world championship could be organised if EFRA and IFMAR get involved

RE: Large Scale Racing including TFT Race
You need to get into clubs, thats the only way to do it. Get the guys who bash around to go to the local off road track even if it is an 1/8th track, I'm sure you wouldn't be turned away and get them to help you out by running a heat of largescale in one of their club race days.
I'm not saying it'll be easy but we've have quite a few 1/8th boys trying largescale and having a ball.

The 8th scale track owners claim that the baja-large scale rigs tear up there track..that is the resistance I have seen.

RE: Large Scale Racing including TFT Race
That is utter cr*p and we all know it. There is a club that I race at (www.nookraceway.com) that runs both 1/8th rallycross AND 1/6-1/5 cars and never have a problem. The simple answer is to set up your own club and invite them to race there - just see how many change to largescale.

Sorry to sound dumb guys but are you going to put together a series just for the HPI Baja or all large scale?

RE: Large Scale Racing including TFT Race
Correct me if I am wrong Karlton but I would say run what ya brung using the motor guidelines for TFT race. I would love to put together
a series but not that easy. I have put the owners/promoters together for a SV and Milestone rc complex and we will see
what happens. I would give it a shot but not in control of anything as it pertains to a track.
