Default RE: The eSSpi build begins.....

It took me a few days to figure out how exactly I wanted to do this.....
The body lines are a bit different than an Associated RC 10, and well, I wanted to do something wild, but not stray too far from my campy retro style for the body works.

I also wanted to incorporate the classic RTR baja colors (which happened to just work out that way with the paint job I have on my B4's) so I ran with it, and well.... its fn' nice. I just peeked at the back of one of the finished side plates....... and just want to say OMFGWOW THIS CAR IS GOING TO HAVE EYE CATCHING "POP!" when it is out on the prowl with a sea of other Bajas ( If I ever get to a dunefest).!

Seven hours later..........

NOPE... not posting the final pix yet ........ gotta take PROPER pix

NO SPOLIERS hahah you must wait ! !

WHY ?

um.....

because...

um....

I used the wrong thinner on my airbrush by accident, and ran out of Candy Pearl Purple.

ARGH !

Have to wait till tomorrow for final pix

Hairball, they are called Baja Skins.

An after market part, but really will tie the kit in together nicely once slapped up on the side of it and help keep crud out of the chassis too

I just placed a few pannels onteh car. It is tite ! [X(]

After I got it painted up, I was about to peal the flame mask off and I went " OH WOW" ! thats kinda cool with the off-green color flames too... but alas I needed to stay with the plan

I should have a final update tomorrow (weather permitting) and a synopsis of the build and kit in general.

ORIGINAL: Johnnysplits

TIG...wish I could afford a REAL ford gt!!!! But then again, if I had one my driver's licence would have been revoked. LOL So i'll stick to the r/c one. Cant get a speeding ticket with that.

Lol, me to. Seriously, you and me both would be sitting at the bus stop for our rides. Aint that the truth, you can go as fast as you want with an RC and not worry about a speeding ticket. My neighbor is a cop, he watches me boot up and down the street. No worries for me.

Dave,
the build is coming along great. Looks awesome, nice paint job.

[&o]

I just screwed the pooch.

Used Candy Purple... NOT the color I wanted on the last piece of the body.

well, now I'll be making a body for bashing I guess... GRRRRRRR.....

EDIT: ok, crisis averted. teh pearl is not completely different or that noticeable inside, but tomorrow outside in the daylight, I may see need to indeed order another body and replace the body and paint it with the proper color purple ( because I'm anal likethat....)

So I ordered another main body. [sm=punching.gif]

SSSSSSSOOOOOOOO pissed right now ( 4 hours ago)..... but I calmed down.. it's not as bad as I thought initialy.

OK, so I'll have daylight pictures tomorrow, but here it is.
Still have some parts to add, but it is able to run right now, I just don't want to spoil it untill it is the way I can womp on it and not worry about wear and tear on parts.

I think it turned out really nice.

And since we always LOVE to see the bottom of our cars aswell.... I applied stickers and them I put clear coat heavy packing tape over the chassis to protect it a bit.
And of course I have to sign my art aswell

Still a few sponsors and parts missing..... will be added soon.
LOOK ! FREE ADVERTIZING !

This part was a souce of annoyance for me. It is the front nose retaining lower arm bar plate.
It rattles and makes such a racket that I can't even imagine how loud it will be once the car is actualy running and vibrating over the ground. I took it off the front, and backed the bracket with some electrical tape, and it did the trick as there was a 1 mil gap.

Overall it went together really easy, althoug I was a bone head and left the 2 dif bearings OUT of the build and kept the bushings in it accidently, and didn't realise it until now, BUT, then I remembered I did indeed replace them, and now have an extra set of dif rings that go somewhere else ? I gotta ask Fast Eddie. Also the 2 flanged bearings included with the upgrade kit require you to drill out the bracket on the brake plate lever so they will seat properly as there is no flat spot on the ball bearing, just the stock bushing. I'll do this next time I take it all apart to install the Vertigo bell housing and motormount. A few instructions were confusing, but it is just because of how they were drawn. The front wheel blocks and turning ball joint linkage point piece Shaped like this: < wasconfusing, and I didn't realise they gave an extra set of them, and put both Right side ones on the buggy, but corrected it with a few screws and replaced it with the correct side part.

I now have a Love/Hate relationship with beadlock tires. Next time, I get a screwgun hex head bit that fits the bolts and do it that way and just handtighten them the last few turns. Was brutal on my wrist after an hour+ or so of screw turning on 4 rims that are 2 sided. Carpal Tunnel Lawsuit HPI HERE I COME ! lol.

All the hardware was perfect. Bolts and screws were also near perfect. No cross threads, no burrs, none of those unfinished heads that have a bead of metal still in them that was not cut out. The only gripe I had was the tiny screws that heald the servos in place, but addressed that earlier. I really like how the entire radio compartment was able to be taken intact out of the vehicle and worked on with a simple removal of 4 body pins.

The front shocks need a cross brace for sure. I can see myself rolling it over and slamming the nose, and snapping the shock heads clean off the uprights. The RAMTECH is OK, but it does not protect the front of the shocks, just strengthen the uprights. I'm going to see about making one that will come down and attach to where the upper Arms are spindled in the chassis and run a piece of aluminum up around in an "A" frame as no-one has made such yet, and it would be really good.

more comments later.

Yeah, bigmodman, Its a Decepticon emblem. I've had a nice collection of classic Transformers and Gobots... sold most, but still love them

It is on all my cars/planes that or an Autobot emblem.

EDIT: Collection pic:

Decepticon, I see, always rooting for the bad guys, huh Dave? What does it look like in robot mode? You are so particular, you better wait for a bashing body and keep that one for the shelf. If it was me, I would have just spray painted it all green and called it good.[8D] nice job, by the way.

I had my new body all masked off ready for paint, then saw this... I forgot I even had the bash busters! Time to rethink the new paint job for me! Thanks Dave
