Painting the chassis? That is very tricky but why you do that? Anyway, the results will show us. Don't forget to post pictures of the finish, alright?

You got that right "super baja". With that motor its going to be insane.
Lookin forward to this build.
Keep up the great work

Sort of. Anodising is almost like a dye or a really thin coat of colored sealer that is relatively hard. He is probably going to buff and polish the aluminum to a super shiny almost chrome like finish.

RE: My super baja5b build begins
yep ive taken the anodise off and i polished it up , that is the most horrible job and sitting there with the dremel for hours was a killer . I want the main chassis looking like chrome cos im putting on a new shell and im painting it black and with the shiny main chassis and the new DDM chrome sidemount pipe its gonna look killer espesially as you can also see the shiny casing of the motor . i might go and see if i can find a local factory that does croming cos i really wanted a chrome chassis .. Also if you can see on the blue billet head where the ignition coil is supposed to mount up i think i have an issue with it cos ddm supplied an alloy spacer for it but i cant use the stock bolts on it cos its not long enough so i have to go to an auto shop and see if i can get a longer bolt , i hope i can find one .

guys for chroming go to the local Harley shop, they will know where its best to get done. it is usually cheaper as well, they will send your stuff in with all the rest so the price gets divided up....not a one off chroming piece.

RE: My super baja5b build begins
ITS COMPLETE hopefully . first of all are copper gaskets supposed to leak ? ive got a 040 copper gasket on the head and for the exhaust .The engine is working but needs tuning , when i trottle it open it goes then bogs out and wants to turn off what could be wrong what do i need to adjust . the throttle wire needed to be modified and was the biggest pain in the rear end lol. i bought a piston stopper to do this job and it was the best 10dollars i spent , there is no way i could have done it without it . bolting up the pipe was driving me insane it took ages to tighten those bolts to the head , the pipe isnt too loud either . The super speed gears make a big differance but also was a pain to put on cos the gear that goes on the clutch bell doesnt fit through that plate , you gotta mount the plate on first then screw on the gear to the clutch bell . So hopefully i can get her running smoothly as soon as this crazy weather settles down , its been raining and thunderstorming like its hell on earth here lol. All i can say ive finnaly got this baja5b looking the way i want it .

RE: My super baja5b build begins
did u use gasket tack on the copper gasket? notonly duz it keep the gasket from moving while assembling but it allso helps seal it all .
i use loctite 534 hi tack in a stick ....
when i changed to a copper exhaust gasket i tryed the truck without the gasket tack and it leaked . so i put some loctite 534 on it and not a leak again ...

nah i used nothing on the gaskets , ive got both copper on the head and the exhaust and its leaking its just spitting out fuel from around the exhaust gasket and i think also the head gasket . hmmmm i guess i now have to open the damn thing up again . do you have to put that loctite on both sides of the gasket ? ...Also if the flap in the carb opens too much when you WOT could that cause the engine to bog out and turn off ?

I dont think any pipe looks nice on them apart from the stock SS pipe. HPI should have put the engine the correct way around! just like the FG's

I think for $$$ and weight reasons......Unless its a shelf queen, Polished aluminum is better for the chassis than chrome. A little more maintenance but versus having the chrome peel or chip from bashing off road, the polish route seeems like a better alternative. Just my .02
ORIGINAL: FastEddy
I looked into having a chrome job done on a chassis.
Let us know what kind if a price you find. The 2 local guys here were way out of my price range.

Looks nice.
I like the way the side dom mounts up compared to other side mount pipes. Its runs parallel to the chassis rather then angling out to the front. As far as side mount pipes go I think it look great.

RE: My super baja5b build begins
I think ive finnaly got this beast going with more final adjustments of the throttle cable to the servo done this morning . The motor is unbelievablly strong the power is just IMENSE and INSANE and the pipe is just the same it holds the power like a CRAZY ANIMAL and the top and low end is just CRAZY , the speed of this thing is probally as fast as my jato3.3 and maybe a little more , the tires on the standard beadlocks seem to be holding well cos it looks like the rubber just wants to rip out of the rim completly with this new power LOL , but ive got the tarmac buster tires coming on the way so i hope theyll be more stiffer .All areas where a gasket was i had to seal it with automotive gasket maker so its got zero leaks now. The baja5b ended up being a little more heavy with the mods so ive also got on the way stiffer springs for the rear and a modified rear shock brace to help it . Oh and also this motor is drinking fuel like a v8 now ha ha ha ha.
And now ill think ill rebuild my old stock motor with a 29cc top end with +2mm stuffer crank and this time only a bolt on reed to the intake manifold and keep that motor as a spare.
