Just got an engine stand.
Its always been an issue for me to test an engine before I put it into my Baja. Nothing more frustrating then getting it in then having to remove it if there is an issue. I saw that there was a stand available and jumped right on it. I was up and testing in no time. Makes life a lot easier.

I have one of those myself haven't bolted it down yet.
Eddy- which fuel tank did you use to connect it up? I'm thinking of ordering one of the cheap $5 firehammer fuel tanks to mount next to it so I will always have one sitting there. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHTW7&P=7

RE: Just got an engine stand.
Not at all expensive.
I paid 20.00 plus shipping.
Its worth a lot more just in the time savings of mounting an engine in the Baja and having to remove it.

RE: Just got an engine stand.
shown is an airplane fuel tank, which would require a separate gas conversion kit (the stopper isn't gas resistant), so that firehammer tank is probably the cheaper solution

RE: Just got an engine stand.
Thanks for the photos, it just made it easier for me to make my own. But I think I will add something to put load on the motor, so I can rev it out a bit to check everything

RE: Just got an engine stand.
The stand was 20 something dollars. Way to cheap if you ask me.
You are correct about the stopper. The original is also to small to be properly adapted with the larger fuel tubing. One may be able to get away with a smaller fuel line but I didn't want to take the chance. I have a rubber stopper from another tank that I will adapt. Just haven't done it yet. The tank is 4 oz and cost 4.50 retail.

RE: Just got an engine stand.
Never had a new or mod motor bolted to a car that needed to be removed unless we blew it up running it and a break in stand would not have helped. Total rip off of $20
Running a motor unloaded is not a good thing the photo shows your tank placement so close how do you put on prop or clutch / bell housing

It isn't a rip off. I think it's great to have. Great for when I get my motor rebuilt and can bolt it down and start it up for testing. Keeps me from putting everything in the car back together and finding I have to pull it back out again.
Don't even get me started on rip-offs bud......

RE: Just got an engine stand.
Your money if you need one by all means but for the majority of people the motors are easy enough to work on not to have to keep re-building them over and over to get it right.

If nothing else its a great building stand. Some people may not want or need one but I do.
Maybe Im not that great of an engine builder.
In the past I have had issues with getting a newly built engine started. For me or anyone else that isnt perfect its a great way to fire one up before mounting it. Some day maybe ill figure out how to replace a crank without having to remove the engine in my Baja. Till then, Ill use the stand. I also like to build an extra engine or two to have on hand. Its nice to be able to start it up without having to uninstall my engine, install the new one to test, uninstall it, then reinstall the original. Anyone who actuality owns a Baja knows its not the easiest task and does take time.
Needless to say I dont feel ripped off at all.

RE: Just got an engine stand.
takes me less then 5 minutes to pull the motor out of the baja, very simple job. Yeah I've put in a brand new motor in and it did not run, but with the motor in the buggy you still can get to all the trouble spots with out pulling the motor.

RE: Just got an engine stand.
The internet is a free place, you can post names of where you got it, they just don't want you to post a hyperlink because they are "afraid" that other forums will steal members away from here ....
Such a silly notion, 90% of us on here are on all the other forums already anyway.
Just post the guys name, and an email account, and help us all out.
I too was looking for a stand, and using my vice with a piece of sheetmetal that I drilled out the bolt pattern to. Gets up to revolutions and wobbles back and forth hilariously, but I worry about it comming loose.

RE: Just got an engine stand.
here is a alternative as well,, My buddy that owns a small engine repair shop built his own from a slotted milling angle plate much like the pics below, they are cheap and can be found at most any milling machine supply sites,, even eBay has a few slotted ones that may also work.

RE: Just got an engine stand.
Now that is just plain dumb. We are all here to help one another and share problems, experiences and generally talk about all the hobby stuff we all love so much. The place to find the guy with the motor stand is over at the hbibajaforum. What is the big deal. That is where you can get it. So what.
