Default tips for painting FG body from the outside.

since these bodies are so expensive, I was thinking of fixing my body with some fiberglass and epoxy and then just painting the body from the outside to make it look nice again.
has any one done this? any advice on what material to use on the repair or prep work and what paint to use?

Thanks

The bodies are not that expensive, painting on the outside is not a good idea. One roll over and all of your hard work will be wrecked any way. Just buy a new shell paint it or get it painted and bash.

Yeh, stiffening the body with fiber glass is only going to make it more brittle. It may take smaller impacts better but in the big ones, it will crack and dent, where the stock lexan would have just flexed and retained it's shape.

I assume this is for an FG Monster? If so, try to get a beetle body, they are near indestructible, mainly due to the shape (egg), but also because there's no corners and nothing sticking out. This also has the added benefit of rarely leaving you on your roof after a roll, the beetle bods are like having a self righting mech on the car.

PS Clubin, cheap?? I paid $160 yesterday for an MB Pro shell at my LHS. [X(] I agree it's not prohibitively expensive, but it's not cheap man. You got the RN pipes yet? PM me about that will ya, I got some info I wanna share with ya.

We picked u a Beetle body to try out ourselves, seems like it would work well. As for painting the outside it would have to be a very simple job that could be repsrayed after every incident (or decals to cover boo boos) I'd just use the goo and fiber tape on the inside to set everything right. personally I get a kick out of keeping the body of my Jeep, after every bash it gets inspected, taped and gooed, looks very tough but that's what you get for bashing in the cold...

Got my Beetle body at my LHS for $120. Good deal so I picked it up. Bedliner idea has merit, may think about that for the inside of my next Jeep body before I ever bash it??? It comes in colours I believe...

Gotta be sure it would adhere to Lexan, otherwise you could have 2 bodies[X(]

If you do a search on fleabay for "Bettle Body", yes its spelled wrong, you will see what I believe is a body painted with spray on bedliner. Anyone else think this too?
