Default Breakin procedure help!

Well I have a Baja on it's way. What break in procedure should I be doing? What oil-fuel ratio should I do for break in process? I will be using Klotz Techniplate Oil...

A lot of people break these in but all they are doing is wasting time. A piston ring seats in 2-3 seconds after startup, these don't have tapered pistons like nitro's that take longer to seat and need heat cycling to seat the piston and ring better. The piston and ring wears the same amount whether you spent 5 tanks running it easy or 5 tanks running it hard, doesn't matter, it's all in the mix, run a poor mix it'll wear quicker, run a good mix it'll wear slower. Keep dirt out the carb and run a good mix and you're set. Like a dirt bike ya run 24:1 a tank go to 32:1 a tank then right up to 50:1 or higher, these don't need such high ratios cause performance doesn't really change with the mix on these so ya stick to 25:1. The only thing I'd recommend is not really tuning much on the needles first tank, after that tune away, if it's stalling alot first tank tune out that condition, I'd also let it idle a minute or so before womping on it if it's cold out or at least run it lightly for few minutes.

ONE TANK or about half an hour runtime, just take it easy, don't baby it, but don't give it long WOT runs either, then on the second tank or toward the end of the first, tune and let her rip. This is what all the hobby shops and racers I have spoken to say.

As for rings and seating, that's not the only factor. (Real) cars have pistons and rings and they have to be run-in. It's not so much a question of necessity as a sensible precaution to let the oil work it's way round the system, all the parts bed in, etc. It's not a break in as such, it's just a good idea to take it easy on the first tank.

Alright, so during the first couple tanks I should run it at 25:1. Then what ratio after that? I thought you don't change ratios as it was like nitro and their percentage (in a way).

Always 25:1. Never change the ratio.

does no harm to take it easy for the at least the 1st tank... personally i ran mine in over 2 to 3 tanks only because i was used to doing it with nitros. Some say you need to change the piston ring after run-in etc! , again i havent & had no probs.

the 1st couple of tanks my MB did seems sluggish, but on the 3rd she was ready to rock!

I've heard there's little to no power gain from buying 98 or 100ron fuel, but I don't know for sure cos I haven't tried it.

Whatever you say dude... Like I said I haven't tested it, but the gas is not designed to make a diffrence in 2-stroke single cylinder engines, it's designed to make a difference in 4 stroke multi cylinder engines with 100 times the displacement.

NO, there is no difference in power, all a higher octane does is lower your combustion chamber temperatures. Some people take placebos and feel better. LOL

I feel that Shell gas runs better than Phillips 66 gas. So, if he says he can feel a difference, I believe him, but, there's no telling what the real reason for the quality difference is.

Just something to think about - Although running in isn't all that important, the first ring on a new engine doen't last as long as a replacement according to various engine tuners I've spoken to.
