using gas struts as suspension
this might be a dumb question but i have to ask to get an answer lol, has anyone thought of using gas struts as a suspension set up on large scales or thier baja5b ? the shafts are much much thicker and would be stronger than the usual shocks you can buy for the baja5b , plus you wont need to worry about getting them dirty

gas struts are too stiff. The pressure is more than you need.

Yes I am on my 1/4 scale prostreet Beretta project,,, They are lift supports for automotive use, www.autopartsbylou.com
I built a jig and screwed them down, and used a punch in the lower chamber to release the nitrogen,, I still need to design a T&B spring perch.
Here is a few shots of one, there are more on my site listed under Gallery, www.quarterscaleberetta.com

I will most likely be using these on my build for shocks as well. Just curious what size. I know they have different strengths, but do they make them small enough? Haven't seen many that are small enough to fit a 1/5, and I am having a hard time finding a short enough one for 1/4 scale. What size did you grab for your car Berretta?

I belive they are the 6 3/8'' EXT length,,, I didnt need the long ones for the Beretta, beings it don't need much travel at all, They have all types of lengths, You will need to release the nitrogen and build some type of spring retainer with spring on the outside of the shock,, These things are tuff, If you dont release the nitrogen and just bolt them on, it won't have any travel at all, when I got mine I tested them in my press and it took 200 FT lbs just to slightly compress them,

wow. Any chance you could point out the ones you got? That length, might actually work perfectly for my cantilever design. Haven't settled on it since the shocks will be the very last item attached, but it's a prelim idea.
Um yeah, nm, I went there and it was easier to figure it out than I though, feel dumb. Anyway, thanks for the link, know whre to get them now.
