RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
Update on my KM 2.0. Motor is still running great and seems to be getting stronger. I have ran about 5.5 tanks through it so far. This has not been without problems, Several parts have broken on my KM and I have not driven it hard. I have had the usual starter, tire and rim problems, but I also had 2 bent shock shafts. I replaced theses with larger dia. HPI shafts. The biggest problem I have had is the chassis. It is made from a weak alloy, very soft. Mine tore at the break , it did not bend after landed on the front left wheel after a 1 ft jump. I made a stiffener from 1/4" 6061-T6. The frontend is very strong now. When I started it up today, the clutch was engaged. After taking it apart I found had a broken clutch plate. Clutch plate is made from potmetal. I wanted to run today, so I made a billet one. Works great so far. If I did not have a machine shop I would always be waiting for parts. Still happy with the baja, just hoping I am getting all the bugs worked out

I have had not one problem with mine as of yet. (Where is some wood when you need it..) I admit, I have not dogged it too hard, but I've been doing some cool 2ft jumps in an empty lot and lots of high speed runs. The brakes work awesomely, especially if you dial in some ABS. The only thing that irks me is the rear suspension could be a little smoother.
I've noticed my buddies HPI 5sc has had mutliple problems since he purchased his, which was not too long before I bought the KM. The biggest being his throttle servo fried at WOT. Luckily for him he was able to flip the car on its side before hitting anything. He also had a clutch bell bearing go bad and one of his tires ripped. He's getting to know the HPI's customer service number by heart..

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
My 3.0 has a issue. The stock spur gear was starting to wear so I replaced it with a HPI spur gear, it lasted 5 minutes... It was a snug fit but had some play in the mesh. See the pic..
So I went back to a stock KM spur, the same size as the original, but it won't fit, I can get it in but its very tight and I'm sure it would only last 2 seconds
I've tried taking the engine nuts out and moving the engine but unlike nitro cars there seems to be zero movement for mesh alignment. Everything appears to be in the right place.
Any tips?

I haven't had a problem with the spur gear on my 2.0, I even fitted it on my new 29cc Zenoah and still no dramas, I seem to remember reading somewhere it is a heat related issue rather than an alignment issue?!? Lee.

Steering servo failed during some moderate bashing the other day. No jumps or anything, just high speed runs over semi rough terrain. I did hit a large rock that caused the truck to fly about 2 ft. in the air. The servo failed a couple of minutes later. Apparently, KM's claim of better steering servos in the latest version is a crock..

Yeah, don't believe the hype...if they are gonna cut some costs, it will always be with the electronics...Now do your homework and don't spend too much...servos will fail no matter the model. Just ensure the ones you get are reliable for largescale bashing.

Yeah, I'm waiting on a Futaba 3306. I didn't want to drop too much cash on a servo.

I don't have time to mess with my T1000 so I will be putting it up for sale after I get some photos taken. If anybody in southern California is interested, drop me a line. Upgrades include a Hitec throttle servo, and a JetPro garguntuan pipe.

One observation on the new 30.5 KM offers. It seems to have plenty of grunt on the low end, but does not rev up as high as the 5t and 5 sc's 26cc engine. I'm not sure if the RD Logics pipe is holding me back but they are clearly faster on the top end.[sm=confused.gif]

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
hey guys, so do you think this is close to the hobbyking baja, and for starting out with fifth scale, would the km baja be better than the hk? i have a nice radio and im a long time hpi fan, so getting a clone makes me skeptical, but i cant afford a genuine at age fifteen. maybe a used one. sorry about my spelling and grammar, the reply window doesnt let my phone enter anything but text.

Ibelieve you can compare the HK and King Bajas on a like for like basis, with the winner being determined by whatever features appeal to you more. In other words, the HK(Rovansport) Baja is comparable to the King Motor one in terms of quality. You might find that paying a bit more for a larger motor might be worth it, or getting the "S" version of the HK one with sway bars & pipe etc etc. Have fun deciding, you won't be wrong with either...

I now have 3 friends I bash with, all have HPI's. I've noticed the same amount of issues with their trucks as mine. They have had more serious clutch bearing issues too. Except for one, who picked his 5t up cheap on CL for $600, they would not buy the HPI again.
