Needle settings?
Just wondering if anyone can suggest a good starting point to tune this engine, which is in my Baja:

Somehow the needle settings got butchered and I forget what it was at originally.

Ah thanks. Yeah the motors broken in, I had it tuned fine but they got all messed up.
I take it those settings are number of turns "loose" from fully tightened clockwise?

RE: Needle settings?
yes, on all Walbro carbs they should be near 1 1/2 turns from tight, if they're not, the metering lever needs to be adjusted or it won't run right...
EDIT: should have said that as a baseline they should be about 1 1/2 turns out, if they're like 1/2 turn out or 3 turns out, you have a problem and you're just going to be fighting the thing, you'll either get it to run at high speed or low speed, nothing in between.
