I made my own front bumper for my baja5b, NEW THIRD VERSION WITH PICS
I MADE A THIRD VERSION with pics.I made two versions one small one large, both are made from 6mm alluminium flat bar and professionally tig welded by me , the small one i made a bit short with the front bump plate with a real slope angle and then i painted it in chip proof heat proof and baked it for a durable hard resistant finish , the second one i made from 50mm wide all around and polished that all up , this one is made a bit longer for the front and the front bumper plate is not so on an angle , i made it a bit longer so at least if my baja decides to flip and do cartwheels it will do it on the bumper and not on my front wheels smashing them lol, i know it wont have crumple zones but im not using mine around trees or hard objects so im not worried about that .

yeah i think it sticks out too far also but its not so bad , if it bothers me that much it will take me 5 minutes to weld the holes up and re position it and make new holes , the black one turned out pretty good it looks good in black , i used special VHT brake caliper black gloss this is ratetd not to chip and can take heat from 900f the clear coat is also VHT called flame proof header paint and can take th heat from 1300-2000f , it turned out super shiny once the clear went on it was heat treated three times recomened by vht so now its really hard coating thats shiny also

i just made adjustments to my polished bumper and made it a bit shorter , now its looking better , i love how it turned out , the bar makes for a good handle too its now easier to pick my baja up . Im thinking of painting this one black too

YA, i guess if you wana call it PAINT. that stuff sounds pretty sikk to me.lol.. but as i am free to my opinion..he,he.. i kinda like the shiny look as it seems to go well with the rest of your chassis. obove and beyond its workability, it also looks like a sweet handle!!

yeah the angle one is good cos if it hit a big lump of dirt or especially in the sand , it can hit and keep going instead of coming to a complete stop with a flat front bar. also these bars have balanced out the baja with the extra weight at the front , before it used to be all rear end weight , so now its handling pretty darn good

Lovely work, l have a pondering question for you though, it looks so stong, the way you have designed and made it that it looks like in a big crash the energy will end up moreso in the front chassis section, bending it upwards ?

RE: I made my own front bumper for my baja5b, NEW THIRD VERSION WITH PICS
i made this one today 27 may 2008 lol, this one is my most favorite and this ones staying on my beast , i like the shape how it turned out kinda reminds me of the chev badge shape lol. i then went over the edges with the tig to give it a nice smooth polished feel and makes it easier for polishing , it looks ten times better in natural light but i got home when it was dark and had to take photos indoors

Will it bend or crumple in a crash? Otherwise it's just gonna transfer that energy into more expensive parts.

you could just make it out of thinner alloy , even just get it folded up rather then weld it .
looks cool but .

Well the last one i made WILL bend its a thick alloy but its also soft alloy plus this design allows for it to bend , unlike the first two . If i had to buy one from DDM or something i would be paying upto $50 for a bumper and the only two choices were the bendable darksoul one of the NON bendable lunatik steel bumber , now compare them to the one i made and take your pick , i might even think of selling these , how much would you guys pay for the last one i made ?
