Tranny gears in gear box for baja 5b + ss
with all the talk of increased HP or stock has anybody destroyed the tranny gearbox gears ? they also now make heavy duty tran gears and such that are much stronger and run quieter so they say lol . mine are still stock and not damaged , but im thinking of maybe just buying a bunch of heavy duty tranny gears for my modded up baja5b , would i be wasting money for buying tran gear spares just in case lol. ive never seen anyone here mention they ripped the drive train to bits nor have i seen any pics of destroyed tran gears.

I have a 30.5cc reed ported Baja with the most insane gearing out there, and I have yet to damage any transmission gears.
That's just one persons experience, so take it as you will.

spl, the only damage to the stock gearbox that I've witnessed, is the fact that at some point, with the 6-7hp engines, the gearbox case simply lets go. Especially if after extended running with a rear pipe, the plastic got hot. The gears just try to explode out of it. If I was gonna put a mental low end mill on my car, I'd definitely go for a GH alloy gearbox case. I haven't heard of any issues with the stock tranny gears.

It's not just luck with a 7hp engine, though I won't deny it would be unlucky if it happened. The plastic gets warmed up by the rear pipes, and the torque destroys the box. Sure, it's rare, and you have to be one of those people that RAPES the car each time they take it out, but I've seen it twice on another forum. It also usually takes out the aluminium rear deck when it goes, so it's definitely better safe than sorry.
