Default Couple Questions

I'm new to 1\5 scale and i have a couple questions.
How long does an engine last(on average)?
Do they require less maintence or down time compared to nitros and can spend more time runnin?
Whats a good kind of oil to mix with gas?
Okay, last question,I'll probably be gettin the HPI 5b ss kit, whats the top speed on this thing?

Default RE: Couple Questions

First check out the FAQ stickied at the top, it will answer your basic questions.

In regard to the one thing you asked, which is not in the FAQ, the engines last gallons and gallons, certainly longer than nitro engines, as long as they aren't run lean or on bad bearings, they'll last almost forever, requiring only a ring and sometimes perhaps a head change, but headkits are so cheap for these, that you'll be changing the piston and head often, just to try something different, so longevity never really becomes an issue.

For everything else you asked, check out the FAQ.

Is the SS kit alot better than the RTR?

A little bit. The 23cc engine is very good, the 26cc is slightly stronger, especially on the low end. The main difference is that the 26cc has a tuned pipe (I don't like it, but it's still better than the 'can' types found on most cars), which gives it considerably more power. Once you start putting the good pipes on there, the difference between the 23 and 26 is less noticeable. If you have a radio, the SS is the better base.

i clean my air filters at the end of every run. top speed on an ss as recorded in xrc magizine is 43mph. it sounds slower then your nitro's but its a diffrent type of speed. remember. its damn nearly 3 feet long! and can fly over full size truck rutts with out even leaving the ground. as far as how long a motor lasts. i cant tell you. but i will put it into perspective for you. i got my first 5b(have 2) in dec. 06. with one gallon of fuel, you can fill your tank more then 6 times at 45 minutes per run. it has a stock case with a ported 28.5 head kit. i lost count at around 10 gallons!! on that 5b the piston is scored and scratched with sand and other foriegn materials. and i run it as lean as i can too. it starts on the third pull, every time. THAT IS NOT MY RACER!!. but just an example. i havent touched my nitro's in over a year. and ive spent way less on three large scales as i did on 3 nitro's.

Throttle servo, get the best you can afford, with a Hitec 625 at the bottom and an ACE DS1015 at the top.

Yep, that'll work, but you might want to consider something a bit stronger.

it's a throttle/brake servo rated at 130oz....thats plenty, you don't need digital though, you can save yourself some cash and run this HS-645MG

The reason i want the Hitec 5645 is because its a waterproof servo,so i thought that would be a plus just in case i come in contact with water.
I just noticed if you click on the link and on the bottom where the comments are it says i can't program a failsafe on it without a Hitec Field programmer.Does that mean i have to get that in order to have a failsafe on it?
