i no it dont matter but what head temp are you u guys seeing just trying to see what every one else says do thay make min egt temp thanks bty its a 30.5 in a baja

I go by the nitro rule. Over 300f causes preignition. It's just an assumption though, I have no idea if it's true or not. I've had the exhaust manifold up to 300 before, but the engine doesn't get over 290 on the hottest of days (it's been over 35C every day here for a month now).
I too am curious what the real answer to this is.

I would have to highly agree with this rule. I think that in any engine, 2-stroke or 4-stroke, that there is a temp "limit" that should not be exceeded. None of my nitro c/c cars have ever seen over 240deg, and even with my old 1:1 race cars, I would keep a constant eye monitoring the temps.
Same basic concept here. At high temps, Aluminum will warp easily eventually casing major damage to any engine, and yes over 300f can cause preignition.
But I would have to stick with Foxy, and say a range from 250 to 290 deg would be an acceptable normal operating temp.
but preignition is where flashpoint and autoignition rules come into play. Gasoline has a flashpoint of -49deg F, but an autoignition of 475deg F...but with the mixture of oxygen the autoignition point drops to 350deg F...therefore saying preignition can very possibly occur at 300+ deg F.
also keep in mind that the higher the octane (89oct vs. 93oct) the lower the flash point.
