New To 1/5 "Help Me Choose"
I am a bigtime 1/8 and 1/10 here on rcu. I am in search of a new kind of feel to the hobby and would like to try 1/5 first hand. maintenace looks to be minimal and its not only big but its powerful and their cheap to run. My budget is $850. Is it possible to get anything even halfway decent for that? Thanks for you help!

your budget puts you right about at an hpi baja, just a few dollars shy. they are loads of fun and replacement and hop-up parts are easy to get

Ya I saw the 5b but is their any other options? What about the FireHammer MT? I plan on converting it to brushless on 12s lipo with a giant outrunner so...

IF you actually have disposable income for another complete rig, I suggest to Go Helicopters,
http://runryder.com/helicopter/gallery/15838/
IF 1/5th scale is the next step it might make you never look back on Nitro. I ran the 1/10th World Cups for years and followed the brands and engines but when I went to 1/5th, having the ability to drive for 40 mins and not have to tweak or refuel, I was hooked and sold everything small. Since then I have converted all my boats, airplanes and currently working towards my next gasser helicopter. Crossing the RC segments provides a good overview of improvements that can be applied to each segment, for example the RC boat folks have an in run needle system to adjust the mixture during running ,,,
Are you currently racing any of your cars? If a 1/5th scale circuit exists in your area, go that direction, racing is always the most fun and rewarding. It does not matter if it is on road of off road, both have similar technical requirements. You will spend less time on the engine and more time on the actual set up, toe in, out, camber, castor, ride height and then get to work with conventional and progressive spring rates,,, buy scales, saves more time then you will ever believe

If you look at his sig. I dont think he has any Nitros. Converting the baja 5b to electric has been done, I forget where I saw it though.

A brushless conversion for any 1/5th model, including the model itself, will run you more than double your budget.
PS As said above a couple of BL conversions have been done, do a search on the giant scale forum, there are at least two threads about it.

Yes I understand that. $850 is my budget just for the 1/5 r/c. The conversion parts I can buy later on after I try it out first and see what I think of it overall.

that rig that you have the link to has many after market upgrades including a motor and pipe. the stock clone that you are looking at will not be anything like that as far as power and speed. are you looking at the shequi hummer? its a clone of a clone, with not a good track record. i noticed you saw my add for my 5b. its way under your budget.. make me an offer!!!

Unless you gotta have a Baja and are going to gut the vehicle for brushless anyway, I'd recommend a used Firehammer buggy or truck. Try to find one kinda beat up and cheap. You are probably going to do a custom painted body anyway so who cares if the vehicles body is in decent shape.
Used Firehammers are most likely going to be cheaper than Bajas and you can get stock spare parts from your LHS or Tower Hobbies.

lol, that video is sped up about 10% too. I really wouldn't advise a clone for doing conversions. Even if you pull it off, something just sounds wrong about 'look at my cool brushless conversion clone'.

Yep I've made up my decision. Im gonna go with the Firehammer knockoff on ebay for $525 shipped. Looks to be a steal. If anything Im most likely gonna slap a 27cc-29cc BB in it right after I get it.
