Default Question for those with metal gears, FS in particular.

If you are using metal gears for your trans, are you still using the plastic gear protector over them?

I just installed them on my MT and think that using the gear protector will only keep the heat inside the gear area and lead to premature bearing failures.
Will I be safe leaving the gear protector off?

Default RE: Question for those with metal gears, FS in particular.

I have a set of metal gears (plastic on the A&B and metal on the C&D position) on both my MCD and my FS. I have never had a gear cover on my MCD and I do not use the gear cover on the FS and so far I haven’t had any problems with my gears. I also have metal gears on my Firehammer MT with no gear cover and no problems there either.
