Well I got the shocks put together today and finished up the rear set up. I also worked on the front end and finished it also. Once again everything went smooth and the fit and finish of everything so far is excellent. The only issue was there were 4 bolts missing for the steering hubs, but I had spares so it didn’t slow me down. I do have to say with everything else be alloy, I wish the upper shock mount was alloy as well.

Great stuff Pwaicon, I am sure this will get others interested in FG rather than those other Baja's, I have the 2WD and love that, but the build quality of FG is second to none! When you look at the 4WD drive system it makes you wonder why it took FG so long to produce it... it really is so simple but looks very very robust!

one of the things i would change on the car would be the Magura 2 brake bleeding system , as they make bleeding the brake system a pain . the standard bleeders leak air in when u are bleeding the system causing fluid to go every where . and even when u have bled the system the bleeders weap as u cant tighten them up too much otherwise u will damage the end of the bleeder .
i brought 2 sets of theese > http://www.rc-car-online-shop.de/lsh...le_magura,.htm
and i have just installed the new bleeder system on the front brakes and it makes bleeding them a fluid and pain free job ..

Well I made a little progress this evening. I got the engine, clutch, the rest of the drive gears, and the gas tank in. I decided not to go with the stock clutch and install an Elcon clutch instead. As it turns out the clutch bell already had the holes on the side for an adjustable clutch. I also added Outerwears pre filters on both the pull start and the air filter and upgraded the fuel lines on the gas tank. I also got the servos mounted on the radio tray and will hopefully pick up there tomorrow. Still no issues, everything is going together super smooth. My only wish so far continues to be the front shock mount, I still think is should have been alloy. The manual even calls it an alloy shock mount in the parts list, so for some reason the decided to go with plastic.

At least the plastic shock tower gives you something that you can upgrade later.[8D]
The added weight in the front of the buggy from the 4wd system will make a world of difference on its own as my 2wd FG baja just loves wheeliing and ignoring any steering input while under throttle.
Does the body come pre trimmed?

It would be interesting to hear FG's "spin" on the plastic shock tower. Reason's I could imagine:
1. Trying to hit a certain "ship date" and not having engineering resources to design a new front shock tower (assuming it is different than any other FG front shock tower)
2. Discovering too late in the product design/manufacturing tooling that the front shock tower was not good enough, leading back to #1 reason.
3. Not being able to source enough alloy front shock towers to hit the ship date
I can't imagine that FG said, "Geez, we can't possibly put any alloy shock tower in this product because it would make it too expensive (or too heavy)." They have created the "ultimate" FG buggy and if the shock tower were available and made good design sense it would have been included in the kit.
If it comes down to a supply chain issue of not having it to hit a ship date then the right thing to have done would be to put a "coupon" inside the box for a free alloy shock tower upgrade when available. But then again, outbreaks of common sense by corporations doesn't always happen.

Fg does not make an alloy shock mount. IF you want to get an alloy mount contact daves motors for the elcon one. You can also get this: #13415
front shock mount #13408
front shock mount #13408

Fg had one on their competition on-roads but for some reason it's been discontinued. At least that what I was told when I had my Leopard Race.

LSALLOY, the Comp Baja has a different set up in the front then the standard Baja; so do you still think the Elcon shock mount will fit?

pwaicon, thanks for this great topic on the Baja. I have been contemplating picking one up and from what I have seen, I am ready to pull the trigger.
Hurry up and finish so you can report how well this rig runs so I can order one already
Seriously though, great build so far, fantastic pics.

LOL PLASTIC SPUR GEAR.
All that bling and a plastic spur gear ! hahah.
Nice car! I was drooling ove the COMP MT when tey came out wit it around the same time as I got my FGMT, but Knowing how I drive it, It would be all bent to hell in no time, so Plastic was the way to go, and just make it bulletproof with the key areas with alloy.
and yeah, either Yer wife's gunnah kill you, or the interest on teh Mastercard will do it for her !.. haha.
Pay that sucker of FAST !

Actually both the spur and pinion are metal. The only plastic in the drive system are the gear disk/tooth belt wheel on the front and read diff that drive the belt. The wife is slowly coming around, she actually likes filming them. The funny thing is I told her I bought the mechanical brake version since it was cheaper.
