An Urgent (noisy) problem
hi all,
nice site and interesting posts by the way.
I own an FG Beetle and it has had a new zenoah g260rc engine put in after i blew the old one up, the clutch housing and crank case case was slightly different, but we made it fit onto the mountings, anyway it caused som tension between all the gears, mountings and everything else at the rear.
now it goes ok, but when pushed with the engine off it puts up a bit of resistance to push it and makes a grating clanking noise from the diff (i think).
should i be running it with this noise?
does anyone know what the cause is?
thanks, the video of the noise is on youtube here...

Check the alignment of the drive gear to the diff gear. You may have the mesh to tight. Moving the motor front to rear adjusts the mesh of the two gears.

RE: An Urgent (noisy) problem
thanks for the help david,
this has crossed my mind, although the gears are plastic
so they would have eventually worn true again and noise would stop,
but it hasn't.
have you any other ideas?
it is also a bit trick to move the motor as it is on a set mount with just a bit of
adjustment available,
the clutch case actually had to have a hole ground out so it would fit to the mount.
sorry to sound ungrateful, thanks for the help though i should have mentioned about the
gears in the first post.
thanks...

RE: An Urgent (noisy) problem
ok easy to tell what gears are making the noise [ eitherthe diff/layshaft or clutch bell and spur] take either the clutchbell gear off or the spur and give it a roll ... still making the noise?

RE: An Urgent (noisy) problem
I wasn't talking about the plastic spur gear and clutch gear I was talking about the one behind the motor that turns the diff gear. Moving the motor sets that mesh.
