It was a bit bouncy in the video, but I bet once the shock oil and springs are sorted out it will perform even better. It certainly seemed to handle the terrain well! [8D]

I guess RTR it will be around $15-1600? [sm=50_50.gif]

$1350 seems kinda pricey compared to $970 for the buggy. I don't see $400 worth of upgrades. I would have guessed $1050 - 1100.

It'll be interesting to see what Tower Hobbies sells it for.

I don't know, Ken...

You get basically a built SS kit with (whether you plan to use them or not) an FM transmitter/receiver, throttle servo, receiver battery, truck body, body posts, front skid plate/bumper, dirt guards, better tires...I don't think you could convert a buggy for less money than this RTR truck.

The only thing is the muffler can. [:'(]

I'm pretty impressed. The body seems to be mounted pretty solid to, no noise or anything from it. Handled ok, after a while it will loosen up.
I wonder if they will come out with a 5T specific pipe.

baja 5b ss suggested retail price (or retail?) is about 1600$, so it's gonna be 800 more that SS, so 900 + 600 = 1500 usd

Well, I'm sure its going to retail for less than $1500 most of the time, which is really reasonable. Pricier than the 5B maybe but as all of us FG owners know $1500 RTR is a great deal for these large scale cars/trucks.

I dont know where you shop but I got my SS for $1053 thats £599 from Modelsport UK,$1400 equates to £796 at the current exchange rate, the RTR is $1036,thats £589 and free next day delivery to mainland UK.I must admit though we do pay more than our US cousins for our hop ups and other bits, thats why I shop from the US online shops whenever possible, even if you get stung with import duty it works out cheaper most of the time...

As for the 5T,I uploaded some pics before the official press release on MSUK forum where i'm a mod,I got an email requesting me to ring the sales manager at Mirage UK,they in turn asked me to withdraw the pics from the site under instruction from HPI Europe,I complied but less than 3 hours later, this official press release showed up on their site. What a total and utter waste of their time as half the world and his wife had already seen it on HBF and was quite easily found by Googling the name Baja 5T,surely they must realize that once the images hit the internet, their futile attempts at censorship weren't going to win.

I think its gonna be a winner just simply due to the success of the 5b and SS,I can't see that body lasting very long and I don't think it'll make as good a basher as the 5b for that reason alone, the bumper looks good but how effective remains to be seen.Overall I like it after a few hours of it growing on me but still prefer the buggy to be honest but i'll certainly think about buying one although for my next largescale I want 4wd....

Definately NOT sped up. I edit video everyday, so I know the subtile tricks of speeding up to make it look quicker, this is not so. The clips with sound match up perfectially with the footage. When you speed the footage up, but dont increase the sound, the sound becomes noticeabaly off. To compensate, you either speed the sound up (which isnt the case as you can clearly hear the engine in the right tone) or you decrease the time map of the sound, i.e keep it at the same tone as the origional, but compact it. If you do that, it begins to sound funny, and you can tell it's been remapped. This is not the case. Its a perfect match.

Default RE: BAJA 5T Press Release

I can somewhat see your point that this has a lot of the SS hopups (no pipe) and it's assembled. The 5b is $50 MORE ($969 USD) than the unassembled SS kit ($919 USD). The pipe is worth about $100. If the pipe were taken off the SS kit it would be probably $100 less than a 5b (not going to get all $100 off the price if HPI sold it that way).

Take the pipe out and retool the SS kit into truck form with no other major upgrades (no 4WD, no front disc brakes, etc.) and add assembly to the cost. I still think the price point is kinda high. After the hype and inital orders ship it will be interesting to see if that price stays that high.

I think this shows the huge value that the SS buggy kit has. If I had the budget for a second gasser I'd be all over that SS buggy kit!

All that aside it is awesome to see that HPI has made another big commitment to 1:5 scale gassers. With all the third party support of the Baja platform this is a great product line.

$2399 is retail price, nothing ever sales for retail so it's a non-issue. DDM already has the pre-order price at $1350, Tower is at $1900 so far, but they did that with the original Baja. I think they changed the price atleast 20 times.
Anyhow, I can't wait to get mine

lol let the cloning begin , lol i take back my last post lol i like it now, but without the ugly shell and differant rims , if the local hobby shops in australia start selling them around $1500 i will proberly get one too , but im still gonna build my twin engine baja5b kit but first i need to buy another baja and this is good news cos now for sure the price of the baja5b should drop further , and i cant help feel that the baja5T is similar to a savage X , maybe cos of the extra small lights at the front and how it can handle the jumps , from the vid on hpi site

Coming soon from HPI Racing is the Baja 5T, a ready-to-run (RTR) 1/5th scale off-road truck that expands on the award-winning Baja 5B family. With the Baja 5T you get aggressive desert truck looks, high performance new features, and compatibility with many of the existing Baja 5B spare parts and option parts, wrapped up in a RTR package that gets you running in just a few minutes.

The Baja 5T was inspired by the latest generation of desert trucks that compete in the world famous Baja 1000 race in Mexico. The body was built for a perfect fit on the Baja 5T chassis, with sculpted fenders, scoops, louvers, and an integrated roll cage for authentic desert-tough looks. In true HPI RTR form, the body is completely ready to go right out the box... painted, mounted, pre-applied racing decals and tinted windows. Factor in the front skid plate bumper, Desert Buster tires mounted on Outlaw truck wheels with real bead locks, and you've got a truck that looks like it just rolled off the starting line in Ensenada.

Keeping the body securely attached is a completely new body mounting system with tough nylon construction, 8 mounting points to distribute the stress on the body, and fully adjustable for compatibility. A front skid plate bumper protects the truck on big jumps, now with 4 headlights for realistic desert truck looks. A molded nylon rear spoiler is included for off-road stability, with an integrated rear body brace for extra strength. The sides of the truck are protected by new guards that deflect dirt and debris away from the chassis. The engine also receives dirt guards on both sides for extra protection.

But the Baja 5T goes way beyond looks, under the skin is a tough truck with the power to mow down anything in its path. Power comes from a massive 26cc gasoline engine, delivering rock solid performance, easy tuning and run times of more than 30 minutes on a single tank. The high performance 8,000 RPM clutch and new high flow muffler give the Baja 5T the power to launch with a roost of desert dirt on the way to a screaming top speed of more than 40 MPH.

The included TF-10 radio system is FM for excellent range and includes an adjustable failsafe system for extra protection. The SFL-10MG2 steering servo is a massive unit for quick steering and lots of torque. Standard equipment includes a new higher capacity 3000mah NiMH rechargeable receiver pack and an AC charger. The radio system is protected by a sealed housing with an external charging jack, and both servos are water resistant designs that allow the Baja 5T to be driven in extreme off-road conditions.

For improved handling, the Baja 5T rear shock tower has been modified for increased rear suspension travel. All four shock absorbers have thick diameter shafts for extra durability. The VVC/HD shocks are tuned for smooth suspension dampening to help soak up the desert terrain. The innovative design of the Baja 5T includes a rigid 4mm aluminum alloy chassis for extreme durability.

So get ready to take on the desert with the giant new 1/5th scale Baja 5T truck. It's got the look, it's got the power, and it's built tough to take the punishment of off-road action.

Baja 5T Features:

Baja 5T-1 Truck Body

Tough 2mm polycarbonate Baja 5T-1 desert truck body. Pre-painted, pre-trimmed with body post holes, pre-applied racing decals and clear tinted windows.

Truck Body Mounts

Tough nylon construction and 8 mounting points keep the truck body securely mounted, fully adjustable design for compatibility.

Molded Rear Spoiler

Molded nylon rear spoiler for stable handling. Molded nylon rear body brace for body protection, includes provisions for optional rear LED tail lights.

Fuelie 26 Engine (26cc)

A high capacity dual-element air filter keeps the engine running clean even in grueling off-road conditions, quick-change design for easy maintenance. Air cooled with built-in fan for consistent running temperatures. Fully adjustable carburetor with primer and kill switch. Now constructed using Torx screws for extra durability and easier maintenance, Torx T-27 wrench included.

Gasoline Powered

Gasoline powered for low-cost operation compared to nitro fuel, easier to tune and more consistent than nitro engines. More than 30 minutes of run-time per tank.

Ready-to-Run

The Baja 5T comes pre-built from the factory to precise build tolerances. Normal build-time for a vehicle like the Baja 5T is around 8 hours, but you can hit the track in just a few minutes, reassured by the knowledge that your truck was prepared by trained assembly specialists.

Aluminum Alloy Diff Case

For increased drivetrain durability and extended time between maintenance.

VVC/HD Shock Set

Oil-filled coilover shock set with large diameter shock shafts for increased durability, 16 hole rear piston with sealing ring for consistent damping, fully adjustable design for tuning options.

Front Skid Plate Bumper

Adjustable skid plate front bumper protects the truck on big jumps, now with 4 headlights for realistic Trophy Truck looks.

Dirt Guards

New side guards deflect dirt and debris away from the chassis. The engine also receives dirt guards on both sides for extra protection.

Extended Roll Cage

Extra bracing for durability, extended upper roll cage for spark plug protection.

Outlaw Truck Wheels

8-hole design, tough nylon construction, authentic bead-locks for durability and tuning options.

Desert Buster Tires

Large diameter truck tires for realistic looks. Heavy duty rubber compound and thicker carcass for extra durability.

Heavy Duty Inner Foam

Special heavy duty rear inner foam inserts for extra durability and extended tire life.

Heavy Duty Beadlocks

Reinforced design increases durability of the wheels and tires. Beadlocks allow the removal and replacement of individual parts of the wheels and tires for maintenance.

8000 RPM Clutch

Lightweight clutch and heavy duty spring launches the Baja 5T at higher RPM for more punch off the line.

Anodized Aluminum Parts

Black anodized 4mm 6061-T6 aircraft grade extruded and CNC milled chassis, orange and gunmetal anodized alloy parts give the Baja 5T an aggressive look.

Double Wishbone Suspension

Full double wishbone front and rear suspension to soak up off-road bumps and jumps. Consistent geometry throughout the full stroke of the suspension movement for precise handling.

Adjustable Suspension

Turnbuckles for quick and easy adjustment of toe-in. Fully adjustable camber and caster for tuning the handling to a wide variety of conditions. High quality nylon is used throughout the suspension for protection from crash damage.

High Quality Radio Equipment

The Baja 5T comes ready-to-run with a high quality 3-channel FM radio with excellent range, a high torque metal-gear steering servo, failsafe equipped receiver, throttle servo and a 3000 mAh rechargeable Ni-MH receiver battery pack. The critical electronics are enclosed in a water resistant compartment to shield them from the elements.

All-Metal Transmission Gears

All-metal transmission gears for incredible drivetrain durability, even in difficult off-road conditions with powerful engines like the Fuelie 26.
