Just received my new race engine - a 26cc 4 bolt head engine - it's based on a CY bottom end and a CRRC Pro (red head) top end. It has already been run-in on the dyno (see results below) and I have not had the chance to use it yet as I need to wire up a connector for the ECU.

The torque/power curve is perfect for an off road buggy, especially as it will be powering my MCD Race Runner Evo II and not only is it race legal for national and international race meetings but it will do a 30 minute final on a tank of fuel.
The other engine in the photos is a 'heli' spec engine from Alro Racing.

It's not an essential upgrade for 99% of racers/bashers however, it's a high propotion of the top on and off road racers (mainly in the UK) use them for getting more power/torque out of their engines.
The unit is programmed to change the ignition timing of the engine to improve performance - it advances the timing where normally the standard timing is retarted at higher engine speeds (rpm).
It displays the current rpm, current run time, peak rpm, total run time. To keep it legal for use at national and international race meetings the unit is powered via the ignition coil.
I found it helps with the clutch engagement point and gearing - the increase in engine power is minimal on a tuned engine but is noticable on a stock/standard engine.

Sorry, I have not had a chance to try it yet - the local 1/8th nitro track and motocross track that I test at are unusable at present.
However, this is the buggy/engine combination in action at a race meeting earlier this year it's the red white and blue MCD Race Runner. It won the race meeting, driven by the 2005 largescale world champion, Ian Oddie who also built the engine for me.

Keep in mind all racing has a 26cc limit for off-road just like 23cc for on-roads.

On the Dyno sheet there is a rubric named "Tuned Pipe"
the Dyno test is done using a "Big Power" Tuned pipe, which is an FG Onroad Pipe.
btw. that engine has an impressively flat torque curve, I guess that makes it a lot easier to drive.
I also wonder how tuners that doesn't use Dyno's get ANY idea about how their engines torque curve looks.

http://www.oddified.com (haven't been updated for quite some time, guess that He spends his time Racing and Tuning)
Or jump over at the forum at www.rctek.com, where Ian Oddie is usually quite active.
I seems to remember prices of around GB£ 500-700 for the engine and GB£ 200 for the ECU

Ian can be contacted at ian@oddified.freeserve.co.uk
The full retail price of the engine is £440.00, although it might be less direct from him. He will convert a new or used (in good condition of course) 26cc CY or Zenoah engine to this spec for GB £200.00 and that includes the engine being properly run in and put on the dyno!!
The ECU is GB £150.00 from him but to be honest unless you race at the highest level it's not really worth it.
