Default Wheels Compatible with Smartech Titan or Hurricane C5 Questions

I just ordered a new Smartech Hurricane C5. Does anyone know what other manufacturers wheels and tires would be compatable with it? I want to put the HPI 5T Desert Buster tires on it. Do I need different hubs to do this? If so which ones/what size do I need to order? Will the stock HPI wheels be comtable with the Smartech drive hubs?

Smartech use the fg 18mm square as do mcd, carson, harm, duratrax and the rest of the fg clones, . to run hpi wheels you need adapters...i'm using ramtech ones with a 9mm square behind them to correct the offset .you then have to grind the axle flats out more toward the threads to get the grub screws to cinch down. Without the 9mm square the overall width is reduced by 18mm with the adapters which i find too narrow.
i think ams make adapters from fg to hpi too but have the same negative offset.

Ask AngelShark what he does. I know he is using the RAMTech adapters, and I don't think he is doing anything to them.

pm sent to you keith.

On my baja if you don't stack a square behind the adapter you end up 9mm a side too narrow, if you don't mind having 18mm less track then they're fine, most people seem to want to widen the track a little though. Any plans, Rob, on making a set with 9mm extra width so the track remains stock?

pictures crap but you can just make out the difference left an hpi wheel without 9mm square right stock fg wheel

the titan wheels are not the same offset as the fg.
these made my titan the same width as my rampage tt5

look for the hpi type wheels but with a smaller nut in the middle and you can mount any baja tire, but i've only found the wheel and tire pairing.
