RE: Vented Clutch Bell/Pinion for HPI Baja Vertigo is now testing
I know what you mean, and understand where you are coming from, as I too, if I were in your shoes, would not want to be tied down and dependent on others for the sake of products freedom.
I didnt mean for you guys to get together and form any sort of alliance of oligopoly in the RC aftermarket parts industry, I really only was trying to suggest that you guys might consider for a one time deal or a very loosely untied get-together to create an industry standard pinion and shaft mounting system that is superior to the stock HPI gear.
And of course, if such a loosly unity were to happen, since you of course want to profit from your gear mounting system as it is now, I guess a set moratorium on launching the new standard so that you can earn back from your own R&D and other investments into your system and also make a profit. Then release it as an industry standard after that time.

i think that the 2speed isnt even needed anyway, its fast enough with modded motors and pinion and spur sets its gets crazy enough as it is , the 2 speed in my opinion should only be used for the street in straight lines on tarmac well hopefully in straight lines lol, when mine gets powerband it ripps the rear tires and drifts sideways thats what you call power .

2speeds and bashing aren't always a great thing only because by the time you hit second you have to slow down but some people have a need for speed so there should be a market there.

A two speed is a great thing since our 2 stroke engines only deliver power in a fairly narrow RPM range. Combining appropriate gearing will make up for the lack of power in your engine/pipe's RPM curve.
So if you have a torquey low end engine/pipe combo then gearing it higher for speed will balance it, or if your engine/pipe combo is towards the high RPM end then lower initial gearing with a 2 speed would again bring balance meaning power to wheelie and get up steep dunes and all the speed you would want. As it is you can only really have one or the other.

Should have a better idea end of next week.. The delay (not sure if I explained this) is we are testing 2 different ideas and don't want to put both on the market.

But I don't want to derail your thread so I will try to stay on topic from now on.

(NO MORE BROKEN BOLTS)
(in fact no more bolts at all)
VPP1652-17 should be hitting the shelves mid August.
Vertigo Performance Clutch Bells and Pinions are getting close.
We designed and tested several concepts over the past months then settled for the simplest tried and trued method.
- We used a 7mm hex shaft
- Custom machined 17T hardened steel pinion gear
- 6mm Locking nut. (The nut is self tightening thanks to the rotation of the shaft)
- When pinion is taken off the bell cannot fall back into clutch covers out of reach which causes the possibility of incorrect installation of stock bell/pinion design.
- Completely eliminates bolts that can break.
- Prevents any wobbling between the pinion and bell which is common with the stock design of keyed bell/pinion
Retail price $60.00 (Bell/Pinion combo)
Pinions of various sizes available in the future..

THATS HOT ! [X(] nice !
I have Vertigo vented bell and clutch cover on my 'Ja since it was first introduced 2 years ago onto the market Its been highly reliable and I added a custom heatsinc and 15mm hex head bolt to hold the pinion on and have had ZERO breakage. THis new design is definatley an improvement also !
Nice work Clayton !
