Default Vented Clutch Bell/Pinion for HPI Baja Vertigo is now testing

We have been working on this product for some time. This is not something we are positively bringing to market however wanted to get the photo out for the HPI Baja users to see.
The kit will include a pinion gear, vented clutch bell and one other little part that should keep the clutch bell spinning freely..
Retail price should come in around $49.95

Now for the important details..
No more broken bolts.. Infact No more bolts PERIOD!!!!

Details to come...

I would like to know how its going to work with no pinion bolt ? How are we able to use the old vert carriers or others and will there be a 17,18,19,20 pinions made? I use 12.9 bolts and have never broke a bolt ever but i'm up for some thing new. Can you show how it works with no pinion bolt?. Thanks.

Our bell/pinion will be compatible with all stock and after market carriers except TR's.
We haven't determined how many teeth the gear will have yet. We are looking at 18 simply because the Baja is low geared enough that having the product come with an 18 would be better suited. As for option gears we will look at that in the future with other ideas we are tossing around.

We aren't releasing the way it mounts yet. A couple of more weeks before we are able to do that.

Very interesting.....the mounting system is intriguing to say the least.

Are these made in a shop local to you? If I remember correctly you are local to Vancouver, is that where they are being made?

sounds like a threaded stem built right into the pinion, and threads into the bell. or some type of twist locking mechanism. would be about the only 2 ways to not use a bolt.

should be interesting.

The threaded pinion would be my guess as well, but I don't see how it could lock very well. If you have reverse rotation threading it will lock well but also might be a bear to get back off.

Threaded would likely have the same issues. I vote spline and retaining clip.

This is very interesting.. I would think reverse threaded as well.. nothing to break.. clips and snap rings are just something else to break.. I've had no issues with the pinion bolt snapping, but I know alot of others that have....

We should be releasing our design in a few weeks. We are testing 3 different concepts and will go with the one we like the best.

Just a suggestion from an end user:

Would it be possible to cut a hole in the side so that someone with an Elcon-type clutch can adjust the clutch withput having to remove th CB?

Also, FG has a 2speed gear set in which the CB shaft must be longer to mount two pinion. Is it possible for you to make a CB to accomodate th FG 2speed gearset?

We add holes to our bell over a year ago now when we first introduced our vented clutch bell , since then other companies have followed suit...

Photo of our stock replacement bell

We are unable to address the 2 Speed topic at the moment, sorry. (FYI) the gear size on the stock FG 2 speed is smaller so cannot be directly adapted to the Baja.... Stay tuned!

Ah, I see it! Thanks for the tip, of course, I didnt see it from the pic in the first post (You had the tuning hole turned on the other side).

As for adapting your CBs for FG, since you said the FG pinions have much smaller tooth counts, is it the smaller diameters that is thr problem?
Would reducing the size of the mechanism that mounts the pinions on your CB compromise their fucntioning and strength? Just a thought, especially since you guys have the numbers already figured out.

That is an expensive alternative which doesn't correct the original poor design.

Expensive, heavy, heat trapping enclosed carrier I wouldn't fit one to my buggy.

your right it doesnt correct the origanal design, IT IMPROVEs IT ANd at a minimum, improves atleast 3 other issues in that area.

Out in the Dunes. stock hpi setup has been temped in the 190* f and up.

out in the dunes that TR HD Clutch system as been a steady cool 150*F ya no improvment at all.
