1/4 SCALE MONSTA TRUCK BUILD
As the heading says im starting to build a 1/4 scale MT i have been colecting parts for a few months now and i think i have enuff to make a start ...
heres the engine 39cc water cooled pocket bike engine comes complete with every thing needed to run and puts out 5kw standard ;D
and heres what im using for front and rear axles they are off a self driven toro mower
tyres are 10x4.5-5" front wet gokart race tyres
alloy rims and fitted up the tyres on them heres a pic
been playing with the unis that my bro found in oz for me the are socket set unis but they are a ball and pin set up .......
they will do for the steering front axle but i think they will have to much slop in them to use as drive shafts they will vibrate way to much i think will look at maybe trying to shim then or something to take up the slop any way heres some pics
heres 2 photos of the front axle
finished both front axles with uni joints
started on the front hubs and drive flange will weld lugs on the the hub where needed

Nice.. I like the water cooled engine!
What are you planning to use for a transfer case, body?
Running solid axle in rear or 4 wheel independant suspension?
Might look into LST shocks, there huge, capable of stabalizing heavy chassis's, offer about 3" of shock travel, and there rather inexpensive. You can usually pick up 4 prebuilt shocks off e-bay for about $40.00. If needed you could double 'em up... With some thoughtful placement ie canterlevering, they could offer 5-6" of suspension travel if the Uni's are as capable...
I spotted these 5th scale Baja shocks the other day in another forum, not sure if there any longer than the LST shocks though. The consensus is there top shelf, tuneable, but they aint cheap, @ $180.00 for a set of 4 before any changes/upgrades.

RE: 1/4 SCALE MONSTA TRUCK BUILD
hi yeah i like the water gooled engine to and thye put out a lot more hp than a 50cc air cooled
the transfer case i will make will only be one speed and no reverse will be tooth belt or chain driven and have a disc brake on it as well
will be running fixed axles font and rear and only front wheels will be steering
as for shocks i realy need to get the the whole thing built so i can see how long and how strong they need to be i have been looking at some pocket bike shocks that might do the job with differnt springs ..

Mmmm gonna be a big one for sure!
Am looking forward to more pics as well.
Hey that axle from the Toro lawnmower, that would be from a ride-on lawnmower, no?
Good idea.
Been thinking about how I can get hold of something like that.

Looks awesome. I'm thinking of making a 1/4 scale rally car (or 1/3 scale) as a summer project. Not sure if my dad up to helping/paying for most of it though. I'll definitely be watching this build.

First off, CONGRATS. Thats great news. You take your time and take care of your baby.
Were are you getting the ballends from? I'll have to look around, I had a place that carried everything.
Hmmm, I believe its 1/2" and aarrrgggg I cant remember, I will get the size of the tubing tomorrow for yah.
Sorry about that. I've been putting my truck off for a long time, actually since I have had my baby .
Keep up the great work.
Later man
