Mashed Potatoes (MCD Gears…)
This is what happened to my MCD gears after only 5 tanks… MCD’s slogan is “Put the power down on all four”, I though that they meant to the four wheels I didn’t know that they meant to these four poor plastic gears…

metal motor plate, metal gears. Problem solved.
I thought I saw a post elsewhere that ELCON or some company were making helical gears for this also, but I may be mistaken. If they have, im sure they are not cheap but will be very sweet !

RE: Mashed Potatoes (MCD Gears…)
I think that the problem is not with the plate but with the gears, I have a Jetpro pipe, 29cc engine, boost bottles, 4WD Monster MCD, probably too much power & weight for plastic gears…
I would like to get the metal gears, but I couldn’t find the same gears in metal, the stock gears that I have from MCD (which are ruined) are 24 & 25 teeth, I couldn’t find any 24 & 25 teeth gears, only 23 & 26 gears.
How will that affect my truck? Will I have to replace the other 2 gears which are 24 & 39 teeth? In the MCD gear ratio table I do not see any option for 23& 26 teeth gears…

23 & 26 will only alter your gear ratio 1 tooth higher or 1 tooth lower, depending on witch shaft you put them on.
The only problem is make sure those 23T and 26T gears are the correct pitch and diameters to be used in MCDs.

Is A+B are independent of C+D? can I replace only A+B to a different size without replacing C+D? I can’t find any 24 & 25 metal gears…
Any recommendations for a good package of 2 or 4 metal gears? I found them only on LargeScaleRC and they come there only in couples & they do not have all sizes…
Thanks.

The 23 and 26 are better for more useful ratios. I have them on mine, following what happened to my plastic ones... lol, brand new gears to no gears in 46 seconds...

I don't blame MCD though, I should have run them in properly, I didn't. [&:]

Is there a package of all 4 metal gears?
Thanks.

The 23-26 are a direct replacement for the 24-25. You don't need to make the inner ones metal, they don't usually come under so much stress. I expect there is a full set of 4 out there somewhere, I haven't needed or seen one though.

RE: Mashed Potatoes (MCD Gears…)
A and B can be left plastic they still will last a very long time. C and D can be moved to suit your engine's power you will notice a slite change when you switch locations of those gear's. This is what you need- http://www.innovativehobby.com/index...ROD&ProdID=381
My gear plate this one is from my RR, so the ratio is a little different.
I am with Foxy, my plastic gear's did not even last a tank.
The plastic gear plate is perfectly fine, there aren't any issues with them.
If you need any more help, let someone who owns a MCD help you.

Can you elaborate a bit on the gear ratios, in my FG I know that it makes quite a difference if I replace the 48T to 44T, it gives more top speed but less power in low RPM, I do not know how the replacement of the MCD gear will affect the power \ speed, MCD has 4 gears (a,b,c,d), can you specify if I will increase \ decrease the number of teeth on each one of them what it will result in, more power? More speed? Etc?
Thanks!

Yeah, you bring up a very good point that even I forget about plastic gears, not just in 5th scales, but also in my nitros: the plastic gears need to be worn in and then remeshed again to be properly seated.
Luckily, I have not cooked any plastic gears (yet). But upon seeing more lash in between the teeth from wear, I always make a not to remesh.

RE: Mashed Potatoes (MCD Gears…)
Thanks for the tips, I will get the metal gears (23 & 26) with bunch of plastic gears, I will probably start with ratio #3, after all in this huge beast I am not looking for top speeds, I need torque & power…
Does anyone knows any other MCD distributors other than LargeScaleRC?

Innovative/Largescale are great, I ordered from them many times, till they do not have everything in stock all the time, for example I needed the I/O rubber on the fuel tank, it is out of stock for 3 month, eventually I ordered FG one & modified it so it will fit the MCD fuel tank…
Just would like to know if there are any other MCD suppliers out there?
Thanks.

RE: Mashed Potatoes (MCD Gears…)
Went out today again, with anew set of 24 & 25 plastic gears, they lasted this time only 1.5 minute! This is unbelievable, MCD must not sell these gears, they must sell all their cars with metal gears & not plastic gears. Metal gears are not “an upgrade” they are mandatory!
