So I Got Tired of My Pull Start String Breaking...
The picture isn't great, but what I am trying to show is that I restrung the pull start with galvanized cable (3/32"? I can't remember. It's like one size smaller than the 1/8" cable). I recently snapped my pull start string. This is about the second time that it has happened, not a huge deal, but it ruined my fun for the day (I had only a small window of opportunity to run the other day) and that cannot be tolerated. So I thought I'd try and beef it up a bit. I like projects that I can handle, and this one seemed manageable.
Let me know what you guys think. Do you think there are any possible issues that could arise from using this? I haven't tested it much yet (given 'er a few yanks, seems ok). I'm kind of a shoot first, ask questions later type of guy, so it's definitely possible that I missed something.

yeah, I restrung my other pull start with some rope that I got at fleet farm. The rope was like $3 for 50ft (or something like that). It works decent. This project was just me having fun, and creating something useful in the process (hopefully).

I have weed eater string on one of mine. Why are you yanking so hard? I need you to tell me how to fix the recoil, mine keeps coming loose from the plastic reel.

possibly some metal to metal vibration/radio signal hassles?
Possibly you may end up "garrotting" the plastic clutch pawl?
There are some damn good polyester cords in saws and mowers...
if you busted the end of the spiral spring, you need to heat the end (1/2" or so) to anneal it. Spring steel will snap if just bent over with pliers to make a new hook end.
just my 2c.
your starter cord looks like it will turn over even a flooded motor!!!

Thanks for the input Mudgy. Those are some very valid points. I'll have to see if any of those issues come up.
da mad maori - on the ends I used crimp collars. I'm not really sure what their real name is. It would pretty tough to actually tie the ends off.
