Rear Outdrives
hey guys, does anybody know if the both rear outdrives are supposed to be real loose fitting in its place or snug(tight)?. I mean both floating out very easy. I never really noticed. I ask because on sunday at very high speed, the outdrive popped out along with the dogbone and violently flipped my car. i can't afford for this to happen again. do i need new bevel gears or an entirely new diff?, suggestions would be appreciated, thanks guys......Thats one thing I never had to mess with. Go figure.......

RE: Rear Outdrives
On which of your FG's did this happen?Anyway,it shouldnt have happen! On my Marder the dogbones sits so tight between outdrives and the axle shaft that there is no play at all,but not so tight that it binds.

RE: Rear Outdrives
it's an FG Baja yeah, what I'm saying is, it's the outdrives coming out the diff, there very loose and so is the dogbones. Should I get new diff gears? the outdrive itself looks fine.maybe a little wear from so much driiving.

RE: Rear Outdrives
I have a FG MB Pro, and the outdrives are tight/ no play. There are rebuild kit's available, there are 2 brass bushings on either side of the side gears, a plate diff might be agood envestment though. What I do every few tanks is pull one outdrive out and squirt in some 50000 diff oil. It must help the life of the diff and it help's lubricate things, the oil works it's way out eventually, but my beetle is so dirty it realy doesn't matter. lol
