RE: 1/5 Scale RedCat Rampage Gas Buggy TT5
It's worth the money. The advantage this car has over the other Chinese models (apart from the fact it's not actually a direct clone of anything, more like a mish-mash of design elements from various RCs), is that it has good aftermarket support. rampagehopups and DDM both have quite a few interesting bits and pieces for it.
It's made by Himoto by the way (HSP) and rebranded by redcat. I don't own one yet, but it's a car I plan to pick up, just to see what it's really like. I have heard though, that the RTR shock shafts bend easily, the RTR motor (23cc) isn't strong enough (they are BIG and heavy, like the MCDs, and the 23cc just doesn't cut it in the torque department), and the RTR electronics are total rubbish, but then again, what RTR electronics aren't total rubbish?
I'd honestly wait and see what the Thunderbolt 2 is gonna be like, as I believe it will be better value, though a bit more expensive. Also, the design of the Thunderbolt series cars, is almost identical to the 1/8th buggies you are used to.

I new the smaller cars are make by Himoto. From what I read it has a geinunie CY engine and putting a bigger top end on would be fairly cheap and easy. Now as far as the weight I have see a gross and net. Guessing the net the lightest of the two is just the buggy but does not say with what but is around 25 pounds.
Do not have the money right now to get anything till work either picks up or I find another job but would like a 4 wheel drive gasser buggy one day. Anything else in the $600 to $1000 price range? Prefer a kit as I have a radio and know all about RTR electrics.
Who makes the Thunderbolt?

I own the MT version....the 23cc produces plenty of power and torque ...you have to add a tunepipe to unleash the power!!

I could talk about the Thunderbolt cars for pages, but that wouldn't be appropriate in a thread titled 'Redcat Rampage'. I'll let others tell you about the Rampage, because the new Thunderbolt won't be out for a few more weeks yet anyway.

I can get the TT 5 with clear body, radio and engine shipped for around $600. If and when I ever get one will never use the radio as I have a much better radio I use with many of my 25 plus RC land vehicles.
Thanks all for the input.

The Rampage V2 will be the 4x4 version of the Buggy and Monster Truck, with all of the upgrades installed by the factory. And even better, dual steering servos and really good throttle servos. I haven't been able to break the new servos for almost 2 months now.
The V2 will be released to the public at the end of this week.

I believe the standard 4WD version is around 25 pounds according to the specs I could find. With all the alloy up grades has to be heave. Yes please keep us posted.

No, this isn't the alloy version, just the upgraded plastic a-arms and dual steering servos, and the new diff cups. The MT PRO is the aluminum version.
