Default King Motor Baja to HPI 5t conversion

This is a thread for others wondering about HPI part fitment and also converting your buggy to a truck. I will be using all HPI factory replacment parts for 5t to do this conversion.

Here are the parts I will be using:

HPI Engine guard # 85246

HPI Body mount set side # 85419

HPI Stone guard # 85247

HPI Under Guard # 85425

HPI Roof Guard # 85441

HPI Body Mount front rear # 85417

HPI Bumper skid plate # 85421

HPI Bumper Guard # 85423

The above parts were purchased for $122.26 shipped from different vendors on ebay. If you shop you can find great deals for new parts

So far the HPI parts are fitting beautifully, I couldnt be happier!

The picures below are showing HPI Bumper Guard # 85423, HPI Bumper skid plate # 85421, HPI Body Mount front rear # 85417 installed onto the buggy:

More pictures will follow the progress as the parts arrive and I get them installed.

One of the best improvements I could have made was removing the rubber boot off of the front shocks. They really seemed to BIND the shocks very badly and now they are just how they should be. HUGE IMPROVEMENT. Since removal of these I will be installing spring shock covers.

Here are the parts I have removed so far from the buggy inorder to do the 5t conversion

It is crazy to see some of the prices as compared to HPI.

From my research I found that besides buying HPI parts there is also the King motor conversion kit that another member on here sales, and I have also seen the rovan clone parts available in a kit form. The HPI kit can be done easily with a body and the conversion kit for under $300 shipped, then this way you'll get the hpi parts and whatever body you like, whether a clone body or HPI or Proline.

So if you really wanted to go cheap, you could go with the HPI parts (because if you shop it works out better than the KM price) and then you could buy a KM body, you could do this setup for around $220 shipped or so.

On a side note, when you buy the HPI bagged parts it will include all the hardware you will need to mount everything.

Not even close.

Rovan sells the conversion kit with a body and tires for 155.00. Everything, I mean everything needed to do a conversion.

I sell the king motor conversion kits. They include the sway bars, wheels and body. If you email me I can sell it for $300 for all of it.

I'm about to post an ad on RC Universe with the details.

Please show me a link where you can buy EVERYTHING for $155.00..... unless shipping is a couple hundred. That price does not sound realistic to me at all. Please post a link.

Only Rovan Kit i've seen is about $360 shipped. And this does NOT include wheels/tires.

So on ebay in King Motor RC store (DanLC4), it's $199 for body AND conversion kit (includes all hardware, in nice seperated bags), includes sway bars, etc)

If you want the wheels it's an extra $75. Shipping is $40

So for $240 shipped you can get a king motor upgrade kit with body. for $315 you get the wheels shipped and the body and the conversion.

Here's an update on the 5t conversion. All of the parts have been installed for the 5t conversion. The rest of the HPI parts fit very nicely (just how they should) and Im very pleased with them. I will be running Proline's new 5t Trenchers on split six wheels, I will post some pics once those arrive. I will also be running a rear 5t shock tower brace. Im curious to see if I will need to change the gearing because of the bigger tires I will be running.

I will run great without changing the gears, and you will get a bit more speed to boot

just a question. What does the 5t bring to the table that the 5b doesn't?

Yes there will be an update, glad somebody finally showed some interest and asked me, JK. Ive been busy with a new job and working tons of hours. Camera is charging right now so I will have some pictures up tomorrow on Thanksgiving, probably later in the evening. Ive got the new Proline trenchers/split six on and Im pretty happy! I havent ran them yet, and I probably wont until I get a body. But the 5b buggy tires and wheels are so Dinky compared to these split six and trenchers. Plus these add a lot of extra ground clearance I didnt have before in the buggy stage. These new wheels and tires totally changed the look of my vehicle. I think even for those who dont want a 5t should look into running these wheels and tires with there buggy, there pretty awesome looking, beefy and add some ground clearence. The tread on these things is deep and all i can say is you would have to see these in person. No pics on the net do these justice! This wheel and tire combo looks like its made to last too. The split six wheels are much nicer than the stock 5t wheels, in my opinion, and look great in person. The wheel beads fit very snugly against the tire and look really good.

Keep an eye out for the pics!

Bigger Size... Keeps a good scale look for a trophy truck or vw baja bug person. And it also brings to the table more cost$$,lol. If you look in my signature and paste the link you can see why Im converting mine to a 5t and you can probably guess what Im after

Here the new pics! I've also included a few comparing the stock buggy tires next to the trenchers. Be on the lookout for some new pics with the vw baja bug body from proline. Really glad I found it on a black friday sale. However, I was a little dissapointed that I just bought the trenchers for about $152 shipped and I could have gotten them from the DDM sale for about $107, what can ya do though, lol.

This is a comparision of the 5b front tire to the 5t trencher front tire, forgot to take the rear comparision.
