Default Redcat Rampage Dune Runner 4x4 - Upgrades??

What should be the first upgrades needed to the 4x4 Dune Runner and how well do the engine and exhaust hop-ups from the Baja 5B fit this beast? Specifically, I am looking to upgrade the pipe and the tires. I think I have the gearing figured out.

TIA

OK, now what about aftermarket pipes that fit on it? You have any insight on that?
Thanks

For entry level, the alu pipe
Also the FS steel pipe would work.

The number one up grade in my opinion is a good Killer Bee kill switch. You can put a lot of money in your vehicle but if you have a runaway can all be gone. I will not even fire any of my large scales up with out one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Understood...my 3PM-X is all set up with the fail-safe. I have had no problems at all with my Baja and I will be upgrading the receiver in the new beast once it arrives.

Read this it is a cut and past from Kents web site. I can all so tell you about a guy who lost his baja in the ocean with a fail safe and did not have a kill switch! Guess what he runs one now. I will not even start my 24 pound 5b SS that I have thousands of dollars in with out one. But it is your money. Great insurace for around $80. All so great being able to shut the engine off at well. Just think what it will cost if you hit someone or someones property?

Q: I have a failsafe. Why do I need a kill switch?
A: A failsafe is certainly a good thing to have, and I recommend that you use a failsafe. The more protection, the better. But a failsafe alone is just not good enough. With a failsafe you still have many loopholes that can cause a runaway. The receiver can fail, the battery can die, the servo can go bad, the throttle linkage can bind or become loose, the carburetor can freeze. In those instances a failsafe will not stop your 30 pound large scale R/C vehicle from running away and causing major damage. When you add a Killer Bee kill switch you have a “watchdog†that will not let your engine run unless it senses that there is a good radio signal at all times. You can also manually kill your engine at any time if you see that something is wrong with your R/C. It is also very convenient to have a kill switch for engine tuning, checking spark plug color at high RPMs. And it’s just nice to be able to pull your R/C into the pit and kill the engine via the transmitter, and not have to reach down and press the kill button.

bbuzzard just would hate to see you mess up your car and even worse having to sale it do to a law suite. I have read may stories about those that had a fail safe but not kill switch and had a run away. To me it is just cheap insurance.

Understood..I have had more issues when running into to stuff when I was in full control, though! LOL!! I have them in my cart at DDM. Now back to my main question...what pipe is a good fit for the Dune Runner? I have seen other threads on other forums but I wanted to see if any of the folks who sell the beast have an educated guess in responding to my question...TIA!!

I really like my CPI pipe on my 5b SS. It really woke up my stock CY 26. Many at the track when I put it on thought I got a modified engine. CPI has two pipes one standard for stock 23 or 26 or there big bore for engines with bigger displacement. Only problem I have is having to replace the O-ring every 4 to 8 tanks.

Great to know...I was looking at those CPI's...I have a number of spare hubs left over from my last collision repair, so that will be my next move!
Thanks guys!

Got my new beast today...I can say first that this ain't no clone of the Baja but more of an interpretation that is well thought out! I will have more comparison info when I get out!

What is the spec of the 3ch receiver that comes with the Dune Runner? Isn't the DSM-2C radio a 2ch model? I don't have any documentation on how this thing works...Let me know or I'm putting in a FASST receiver to work with my 3PM-X radio real quick.

I found it...never mind

bbuzzard,

Awesome!

I changed to HPI hubs on my TT which gives you more tire options. I saw you requested better tires from the factory, a harder compound would really be nice.

I know what you mean about the snow we got 16" here on LI. I can't wait for the warmer weather. Keep us posted on your progress!

I also wanted to know about the offset drive shaft setup and how is it holding up?
