NEW PRODUCT RELEASE Newly revised Vertigo Front axle extenders
VPP1619PT Fr.rr Extender kit (Fits HPI Baja 5B/5T)
VPP1621PT Adjustable Front Extenders (Fits HPI Baja 5B/5T)
Vertigo Performance had updated our front extenders to a stronger more functional design. Where as our original designed adjustable front extender required use of the stock rear hub and optional adapter to accept front disc brakes our new design includes an 8mm wider hub allowing use of front brakes. Adjusting front wheel tread is one option for tweaking front end tuning buy removing the included front hub as easy as pulling wheel and popping the retaining pin out you can use your stock rear hubs to bring your front end back to stock tread width.
Some wonder what holds the pin in place.. As with our previous version the wheel holds the pin in place, no bolts needed.
When installing we use a bit of grease on the pin, this accomplishes 2 things. It keeps the pin in place when the wheel is removed and it make it easier to take the pin out when necessary.

I'm glad you've improved the design of the front extenders, the old ones wern't very good. What type of aluminium are these new ones made from?

I never really got on with that idea, the hex holds it in fine until you need to do a quick wheel change where more often then not the pin would drop out as soon as you took the wheel off and then you'd spend the next 20 minutes searching around in the dirt for it, even worse if you used grease, sure it hold the pin in for a little while but it soon slides out, and then when you find it its covered in a layer of grit and you need to clean and re-grease it.
Not only that but since the pin is somewhat loose in the hole (not held tight by a set screw) it allows dirt in and wears between the pin and the alloy hub, it also means that when its time to strip things down because of all the dirt and wear the pin doesn't always slide out easily and you end up having to take some sort of rod/screwdriver and hammer to tap it out, not always the easiest thing to do in the field. Grease does not help, it just attracts dirt and turns into grinding paste and you have the same issues as if you ran them dry.
Also Isee extra holes around the hex hub nearest the carrier, are those to lighten it? If so that's a good idea, the old type you did were very heavy when you used the provided alloy spacers since they were pretty much solid.Do the holes go all the way through? Surely that will letgrit get in between the axles (same typeasbefore?) and thehub, and possibly jam things up even more? Kinda defeats the purposeof closing off the endsto keep dirt out if it can just get in another way...
Sorry I'm not trying to tear down your design, I just want to know how much more'improved' this design is over the previous one. Would be nice to get your point of view on these issues as their things that we face on the track and any product that makes maintenance/tuning easier is appreciated.

Personally, I prefer not to have to worry about a set screw, especially if the lack of one brings manufacturing costs down. All nitro cars are like that, I don't see why large scale is different in this respect, except that if the pin does fall out, it's easier to find! lol. Simpler is always better in my opinion, it's just another thread/hex to strip, screw to lose, etc, etc.

RE: NEW PRODUCT RELEASE Newly revised Vertigo Front axle extenders
Your probably right. I think closed wheel nuts are the way to go for blocking off theend though. I've had some problems with the pin binding in the earlier vertigo front extenders dosn't happen so much to start with but after the hole gets a little worn then things start to get caught up. Getting the pin back in can also be an issue (and i've checked the pin was straight and not bent).
I like the idea for using a rubber o-ring to retain the pin like you find on some hexes like these:
helps keeps the dirt out as well.
Stillthose lightening holes are just asking for trouble with grit getting inbetween the alloy axles and hubs. Un-exposed holes could have been drilled along its length just below the surface and may even have given a greater weight reduction. And if the pin position was kept the same instead of being moved further out these hubs could have been used on the rear of the vehicle as well for rear disc brake options. Its not a bad design, just could have been so much better. I only say this because I like Vertigo as a brand and would like to see them release better smarter products.

When using grease on the pin a bolt isn't necessary as the pin doesn't fall out. With an end cap on the extender there is no hole to fill with dirt and gives a much cleaner look to the buggy.

RE: NEW PRODUCT RELEASE Newly revised Vertigo Front axle extenders
Great news, I am looking into buying a set of extenders. I've narowed it down to these or GBE's extenders.
Couple questions, what grade aluminum are these made from? Then those holes above the pin, do they go all the way through?

The holes go all the way through the hub to lighten it. As are all of our aluminium products 6061 material
The hub mounts to a solid shaft so that if you want to run a stock width you only need to remove the hub and install your stock rear ones that by this time are already sitting in your tool box.
You are in BC and so are we, Vancouver Island. PM me for sales within BC please, our prices are much lower than GBE
Thanks

RE: NEW PRODUCT RELEASE Newly revised Vertigo Front axle extenders
Hello Clayton, I have recently purchased your Adjustable Front Extenders with the round spacers. Well... for me to install a f.brake kit I will need the hex adapters which are not available in the States??? So I have 2 options...1- Remove the extenders...2- Buy your updated extenders and drop more coin. To me thats not good business, will you make the hex adapters available here or force people to purchase another kit?????

RE: NEW PRODUCT RELEASE Newly revised Vertigo Front axle extenders
Hi Fieroboy, First I would like to thank you for purchasing VP products. We have had hex adapters available for over 2 years. Dealers just don't choose to carry them.
Since the vast majority don't use front brakes it made no sense to add the adapter into the kits at an added cost to those who would never use them.
To address not being good business. Products need to be produced for the masses at reasonable prices, not for just a few at a higher cost to everyone.
Our original extenders had a purpose and those purchasing them are aware they are not front brake compatible. I guess it can be said about all companies who constantly improve products that it is bad business, we at Vertigo choose to believe it is good business to improve products and their usability.
With so many brake kits available it was time to progress which is what we did with the help of eliminating distributors and dropping our prices 20%. The new style price is higher but not higher than the original style were. Had we produced these a year ago the price would have been much higher.
Also what we did do that so many other companies don't do is we waited over 2 months after shipping out our original style before shipping our new style.. many companies won't do that and with much more expensive items.
I hope I addressed you post sufficiently,

RE: NEW PRODUCT RELEASE Newly revised Vertigo Front axle extenders
Hey clayton...tnx for responding. I completely understand not "mass producing" with little demand but come on man... you gotta think about your customers who have already have made the initial investment. From a manufacturing point , what does it really take to stock an xxxx amount of hex adapters for those of us who basically just need that part? "To address not being good business" comment was directed at customer support only. I Own a few of your products and am quite satisfied, just a little disappointed in having to purchase twice if I decide to go that route. Tnx for listening

Do the e clip pop off of these as do on the stock hubs. Hey Vertigo i got your super clutch bell ....and you did a nice job. I wish you can make a set of front hubs that use's a counter sunk M5 bolt & counter sunk washer. And be able to clear RPM and aluminum A arms. Now that would be sweet.
