is KM baja tough....look at pics and see!
my 23cc KM baja arrived today. it took about 1/2 to unpack, start and get it tuned. not to bad.
the 1st issue it gave me was one of the rear shock screws fell out....while driving in a sand pit! but i found the screw, and was able to keep driving.
2nd issue, i shut the truck down...and then it wouldnt start again....but that was just the kill switch sticking[:@] not a major issue.
3rd problem....i went to start it up and the pull cord came out but didnt go back in. after removing the body panel, i could see that much debris was in the recoil. a small pebble was stuck in there. i was able to shake it loose and that fixed the recoil.
i should have stopped running then. but as always happens, i decided to drive alittle more, and thats when i crashed!
she was going at least 20mph, when i hit a 4x8 post on the ground. i was driving it through some tall grass at the time[&:]
i hear the THUD
this is what i found[X(]

i got it torn apart.
the damage isnt as bad as i thought.
the steering is all intact!
front a-arms, shocks, steering links are all OK.
the front part of the main chassis is bend, and the upper front chassis plate is toast.
those where the only damaged parts.
i will replace the upper chassis plate, but im gonna try and bend the main chassis back into shape. i know it wont be as strong...but i dont intend to drive it into anymore solid objects
over-all, i am happy with my KM baja. the kill-switch issue is lame. but its not a big deal. and as far as the recoil...i know ive seen pre-filters that go over them. now i know why they are important!

The front end of the baja is weak. I would know this, it nosed dived after falling 30 ft from launching it off of a 1:1 MT jump. I destroyed the front shock tower, upper chassis plate, steering assembly. You can bend the main chassis back to normal.

i went to LHS and bought the upper front plate. only to find that the lower main chassis was bent soo much that nothing would line up.
but i got to give credit to the guys at my LHS. it was near closing time when i showed up. but when they saw my problem they took my baja out to their shop, and we used a vice to bend the main chassis. they also had a HPI baja to compare to, so we could get it at the right angle. they stayed 45minutes after closing time to help me. now thats service. but then, i did just spend $90 on carbon fiber plates.
now its up and running again! the only thing i had to buy was the upper front plate. granted, the main plate is surely now weaker than it was.....but i dont intend to hit any solid objects again!
when we were comparing the HPI to the KM, it was clear that the type of metal used is not the same. you could hit it with your nuckle and hear that the metals are different.

the scorpion part looks nice,
as does the turtle racing upgrades.
i went with the carbon fiber part just so i could fix it today, and not have to wait for parts to arrive.
i think ill get a turtle racing front upper plate down the road.
i also want to get a bumper, but not sure which one i will get.
i wish RPM made a bumper for the baja. id rather get a nice flexable plastic one than a metal one.

$90 for a chassis plate wow
just reinforce it with a piece of 16ga ss you can usually pick up a small sheet for like $12 and its fairly easy to bend and cut...
http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/productDetails.aspx?SKU=998083511(they should sell them individually locally)

anyone want them? id take $40 shipped for what you see in the pic! thats likely less than the cost of the stock parts.

i just bought a pull-start prefilter off ebay this morning. that is a nice looking mod tho. i was surprised how easy grass and stuff gets into the pull-start case.
