rc go kart?
 

I've been thinking of building an rc car with mostly go kart parts but ti a smaller frame and have it rc with possibly a 10 hp motor I just gotta find a machinist that can make me a 15" long 1" diameter axle with a 1/4 in keyway that tapers down to 3/4in at the ends anyways do you think it'd work?,be fast? what servo would I use for steering?:eek:

10 hp will make an unmanned R/C kart very fast. Geared right, you should be able to reach speeds as fast as manned karts, in the 70-90mph range.

I've had good results with the Tonegawa Seiko servos, which put out 13 ft lbs of torque. They're expensive, but can take a beating. They require a separate battery for power, so you don't run the loads through your receiver circuit.

Here's a shot of the chassis for the NASCAR Monte Carlo. It runs a 6.5hp Briggs.

Most of my chassis parts were bought from Northern Tool.

It's mostly fun-kart parts, cheaper than real, engineered kart parts,
but handle the lighter duty tasks of a scale chassis pretty well.

Here's a shot of the underside of the chassis. This winter, I'm adding rear
suspension, as it hops too much for my taste, when it encounters larger
bumps in the track surface.

The chain has now been replaced with a v-drive belt, as the chain was too
noisy and hard to guide over such a long run.

WOW cool project. I'd like to see an off road car that size...
Also, you can sometimes find inexpensive go-kart parts at local lawn mower repair shops. They carry clutches, axels, wheels, etc.
