homemade 1/4 scale buggy project (vid)
ive been contemplating this thing for a while...
the biggest hold back for me was the amount of power needed to steer something this big and heavy after much research on the net... i built a high powered servo..... out of a window wiper motor and an Hbrigde motor controller circuit the frame in this vid is not going to be used ..... the suspention doesnt move... the front arms are one peicse anyways this is the the begining.. hopefully progress will be good enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eimYnrCMOLI Ryan |

Looks like you started with a mini ATV? Anyway, I tried something like that last year but lost interest due to other projects, I still have all the junk here so maybe if you do something nice with it I'll be encouraged :D
Nice job with the steering setup. |

RE: homemade 1/4 scale buggy project (vid)
A tone servo is all that you needed. If you need something bigger then it's time to shed some weight. A tone 050 is plenty.:D
|
RE: homemade 1/4 scale buggy project (vid)
over $300aus for a smallest tone servo (050)
$770aus for the bigger one to be safe OR $70aus to build ya own thats as if not more powerful than the bigger tone ???? a simple decision for me :) (plus my knowege of servos has gone from 0 to just a little more than 0 :) ) |
RE: homemade 1/4 scale buggy project (vid)
WOW great job , i would love to build something like this , carn,t waite to see it finished , love the diy servo very good ,:D

RE: homemade 1/4 scale buggy project (vid)
Looks cool, keep up the good work
|
RE: homemade 1/4 scale buggy project (vid)
Wow that is looking really good. Good work on the sevo, It turns those big wheels with ease [X(]
BTW, it seems a chainsaw engine would be right at home on that chassis ;) |
RE: homemade 1/4 scale buggy project (vid)
Hey Bro,
Don't get standard alloy go Kart rims (like I did [&o]) go for the mag alloy jobs....heaps lighter, eh!!! |
RE: homemade 1/4 scale buggy project (vid)
Is this what comes after you have experienced 1/5 scale? I know there is 1/4 scale, but your scale is a little differant. Great vid I just had to check it out.

Plenty of power @12 volts(5000 oz. Loose the weight and you can use a Tone o50. I do on another application no problem. Weight is you biggest enemy. I built a 1/4 scale buggy for $250 and it uses a 220 oz servo for steering. I never pay retail for my stuff. 50% or less. Free is the best.:D |

update;
slowly peicing together.. just tacking everything for now until its all moving the way it should changed to location of the engine and now bolted to the rear swing arm... (no slacking chain issue) just have to shorten the chain now http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60...s/IMAG0720.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60...s/IMAG0722.jpg getting overall shape of the cage http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60...s/IMAG0730.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60...s/IMAG0733.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60...s/IMAG0734.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60...s/IMAG0735.jpg got my rims today........ my MCDs new zenoah came in too. :) http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60...s/IMAG0736.jpg |
