How do I RC child's ATV?
Hi all!
I've got a bit of a strange idea that I wanted to try out to see how feasible it'd be. I've got a one year-old who loves to ride on my quad, but she's obviously not old enough to handle one on her own. So I'd like to get an electric ATV (Probably either http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price%C.../dp/B000EGELYG or http://www.amazon.com/Razor-Electric.../dp/B000EYF7LO), which I'll then attach a car seat to so that she can be all strapped in while I ride her around. :-) Both of those are 12V units, so I'm hoping I can tap directly into the battery to power the servos. For the steering, I realize that I'll need something a little more powerful than a 1/10 model. I've got a construction buddy who can help me with welding and anything else I'll need to attach the servos to the throttle, brake, and handle bars. What I can't figure out is everything I'll need to get that going, hardware-wise. If someone could just paste a few links of the parts I'd need, the transmitter/receiver, servo operators, motors, and whatever else, I'd be much obliged. Off the shelf parts would be best, as I'd rather not deal with random junkyard parts that could fail and leave me with a runaway ATV. :-) Thanks a lot! |

Here you go.

RE: How do I RC child's ATV?
Oh, come on. Those things go 5MPH. She's more likely to be injured riding a bike. She's 21 months old and plenty of those electric quads are rated for 18+ months.

RE: How do I RC child's ATV?
It'd be pretty easy to control the throttle, but I don't know about steering. Unless you get one with power steering, it's going to probably need like 2 huge servos. I forget what brand they are but they're huge, high performance setrvos...

RE: How do I RC child's ATV?
I wouldn't go quad, too top heavy and offers her little protection.
But a souped up, LCG, pedal car with a lil roll cage would be cool. |
RE: How do I RC child's ATV?
What's an LCG? I was already thinking about taking off the built-in seat (like the VW buggy guy did).

watch [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8KcDSqyRuM]this[/link], what he did was relativly simple, replaced the motors with Hobby grade Rc motors and ESC's for throttle control and mounted a servo under the chassis to control the steering. I'd recomend doing something similar...
