How to adjust adjustable diff for FG?

I just bought an adjustable diff (8485/1) for my FG Monster but now I`m a bit unsure how to adjust it. I know that it is the two screws opposite of one another (see picture) in the middle of the diff but which one is the adjusting screw and how do you do (practically) when you adjust it?

0 -90% In makes the diff turn both wheels out more, out less

you will find 2 holes in the raised bit on the diff tube inside these are 2 allen key grub screws which hold the sun gear shaft in place. Back off both grub screws 180 degrees then turn one screw in and the other screw out an equal amount untill you get the locking effect you want and then tighten the screw you were backing out and your done. If you don't get the locking effect reverse the direction you are turning the grub screws. if you are still not getting any effect you have a problem with the thrust bearing inside the diff .

Yes I know that there are two screws but I don`t know which one is the set screw? Are you pressing topdown on the axle or the other way around?

If you assembled the LSD per FG’s instruction sheet the screw that is for the tension also has another screw next to it that holds on the diff sleeve. Here is a link to FG’s LDS instruction sheet. I hope it helps and good luck. [link]http://www.fg-modellsport-gmbh.de/_PDF-ANLEITUNGEN/A.08485-05.pdf[/link]

According to a guy at HobbyThek the 8485 locking mechanism is very poorly designed and has a very non-linear slip adjustment. I run my 8485 fully locked down.

The best way to go with these diff is the vicous type where you can use different fluids to adjust the slip.

I got the 4 plate diff 8501/05 which is a big improvement over the 2 plate...with that one you screw both screws in to lock more adjusting as per hellya's post and out for less...even backed right off the diff will lock up some (10%) when one wheel spins as the spiders are thrown against the second set of friction plates...a true LSD...real happy with mine. It doesn't have the diff ring retaining screw but a band of heat shrink to seal the hole[&:]
