That Cement saw is blown up though, there's a hole in the block. I got it for the blade holder assembly bits for a smaller battlebot we were working on at the time.

I'm not against making it fuel powered, but we do so much indoor racing that it would be nice to keep it electric. I do have a 43cc engine from a powered skateboard that would be a good fit in there. BUT I'm envisioning some suspension back there that won't work well with an engine. Needs to be compact. The way I see it laid out in my minds eye, the little on-road car is a 1-2 day build at best. It's relatively simple. If I do it, we'll start a thread. :) The 2-day build thread. ;) Maybe I should pick up a fiberglass willys body for it. :) But let's not muddy this build thread to much with that. I'll start another thread when it's time.

If I'm running fuel, it's gonna be 4-stroke with this engine. :D Gotta be next level. We've seen ton's of little 2stroke engine builds.

worked the front cantilevers over. The cantilevers were 5.26:1 ratio and are now at 4:1 ratio and I like it a lot more. I'd be quite confident catching a bit of air with the car now, maybe even 2 feet of air. So that's quite an improvement.

Pony tail? Wrong guy. That's my buddy with one eye... "patch" as we affectionately refer to him. ;) Super fun guy and the epitome of what I would refer to as a "redneck". He's a good fabricator as well, and very good with heavy mechanics like hydraulics and truck stuff. One of those "good guys to know in a pinch", kinda guys.

Getting closer. Put the motor plate in. Put the motor in, made all the keys for the axles, the spacers, and got everything mounted up. Did some testing with a 12volt battery. Axle appears to be spinning roughly 40-47 revolutions every 10 seconds or about 240-280 rpm. Combined with a 10.5" tire (I think it's slightly bigger but for the sake of a number...) looks like 7.49 to 8.8mph. I'll be quite pleased with those numbers. It's at a deceiving point. Makes it look "ready to use" and that's just not the case yet. The devil is in the details. :) I think it's going to need a chain tensioner of some kind. at both ends of the travel, extended and compressed, there is a decent amount of slack. "Probably" be okay. But I think it will be fun to make a chain tensioner.... so that's how that goes :)

I did a little work finalizing the front end... what a fiasco. Little heim joints for the inner mounts are to finicky. They need to be "perfectly" spaced or they bind when tightened. I'm going with the old tube and hinge pin on the next one. Much easier to setup and maintain.

Made a pair of chain tensioner pulleys out of Delrin. using 1/4x3/8 flanged bearings. Not sure what I measuered.... the slot is to small for the chain... 'DOH... gonna need to make 2 more. :)

Chain tensioner is on an arm with a torsion spring?

I made one once for an old Honda Elsinor out of a skateboard wheel on a torsion arm....worked a treat.

Bob, for your tensioners, were you not able to use a standard low tooth sprocket (with hub + bearing), or was the pulley simply easier/quicker to obtain and machine? I've played around with making pulleys and sprockets and found that if the pulley has a "v", the chain will seat itself in easier at high RPM. Alternatively, I've toyed with the idea of using delrin sprockets as guiding tensioners.

First movement of the car, under it's own power. Drive train test with 12 volts. Just touched the motor wires to the battery to make it move.

Battery tray and limit strap:

I have so much rear travel, I decided to put a limit strap on it. Keep the suspension from tearing itself apart in an "incident" and limit some travel. Suspension works better with the limiter. :)

Battery tray:
I decided to run 2 packs. The large gel cell for the main motor and receiver power, and another 5300mAh 3s lipo pack to run the lights. I thought about it, and decided if the lights killed the main reciever pack, I could potentially have to carry this thing a few hundred feet. Not pleasant. this way when the lights kill the pack, I still have full radio power. I went to the extra work of making the battery tray removable for possible improvements down the road. I left room behind the 5300 pack for possible switches, relays or a terminal block. Whatever I might end up with "electrically", I'll have room to mount it.

I'm debating putting a "master kill" switch somewhere on the exterior. I'm thinking right on the front bumper in some clever fashion. if it should ever do a "runaway" and it hits something, it would auto shut off, kinda like an airbag. Like this one.

Lights are drawing about 23.5 amps as a set of 4. Should get me 10-12 minutes of full power with all 4 lights on. I'm probably going to set them up on a different channel so I can turn them on remotely. That would be kinda slick. ;)

I should have practiced, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing as I realized my feet were in the shot. I do that stuff all the time around the house when my 16 year old daughter and her friends are over. Her friends get a hoot of it... My daughter, as you can imagine, is hugely embarrassed, which makes it all that much more fun to show off my "dad style" dance moves.... ...lol... :D
