I got my Riser 100 earlier this year and finally got started. The fuse is built and I managed to stuff a mega 22-30-3 into it. I had a Jeti 30-3 I was going to use but the prop shaft is bent!!!???? I also had a Hyperion outrunner designed for gliders but that one is messed up beyond repair. So I have the big Mega in it . Using a 2S pack and 12X7 CAM folder has more than enough power for even this size glider. After all it's not a hot liner for ALES or F5J.
I'm hoping to find another Jeti 30-3 somewhere as it really makes for a nice easy fit.
I'm planning to use servos for the spoilers and I have a set of plans from DJ Aerotech for the Chrysallis 2 meter that I built.
Finally getting my bench cleared away as I have been working on an old ACE Bingo I picked up from a former club member and that's out of the way except for the Sig 1/5 Cub LOL!
I had nothing to build on ie: something I can stick pins in so a trip to Menards for a couple 2X4 pieces of Homosote.
Hopefully going to get started on the rest this week when I find the time.
I need to get out to the club house and find the leaks in the roof. Not a fun job to look forward to but it's gotta be done.
By the way, there are several gliders waiting for homes that belonged to a deceased club member including a Gentle Lady, Riser and Spectra and Sophisticated lady for LPU if anyone may be interested. A couple are set up with motors, servos, rxcers.
Cheers

David, that's awesome that your new riser was owned by a Tuskegee. Just a thought here, wouldn't it look cool if this Riser had a red tail? Jollyroger, post your pics and comments here of the electric Riser 100 build if you want too, I'd like to see your build.

Thank you Alan;
I have been mauling that over since I posted it on RCGroups also, Sailplane Talk. A guy say to do nose and tail. I might have to ask a club members if they can do detail scripting also. My writing stinks, But for sure I want to put on the side beneath the hatch "In Honor of Charles A. Lane Jr. - Tuskegee Airman".

This is where I checked for his name. It is listed under "Lonely Eagles".

Jollyroger:
Pictures would be great.

There wasn't a pilot in the bunch that wasn't a hero! Myabe you could have Callie's do a vinyl decal in script I wouldn't think it would be very expensive.

After I posted. I thought heck, I could get a packet of Avery 18660 Clear address labels and print out on that with my monochrome laser printer. I would like to use the inkjet, but it is having troubles feeding the paper. It just will not grab it most of the time. With the inkjet I would have the American Flag in it, like in the picture. But this is how it would look just in black.

Problem with inkjet is, the ink is water based and will run if gets wet. Where the laser toner burns in and it don't run when it gets wet.

Next year I am going to buy myself a color laser printer. My black and white (monochrome) is a Brothers HL-L2340DW, nice little printer. My inkjet is a HP Officejet 4500, and boy does it chew up the black ink. And the toner is a 3rd party toner that I am using, just as good if not better than Brothers toner and cheaper to. 16.00 compared to Brothers 75.00.
The color laser that I am looking at is a Brothers MFC-9130cw.

I have a all in one Canon Inkjet. I considered a color laserjet since the prices have come down but the wife likes to print photos and a laser just doesn't have the color pallet of an inkjet.

I wish I could post some pics but my digital camera died and I don't have a cell phone either so right now I can't submit any photos until I get a new camera. Looking at A Nikon Coolpics 500 series.
I did find one bit of a problem and that is the fit of the horizontal stab parts in relation to the plans. After removing and sanding the parts to the ink lines I found when I dry fitted the parts along with the trailing edge, I came up short, making the horizontal stab a wee bit narrower than the plans suggest. I guess I'll have to go with what it is. I've never seen this much discrepancy between plans and parts.
Ah well.
cheers

Well, when it comes to plans, I found out that they can shrink or in enlarge do the humidity. And I think it says that in the manual as well. I read it somewhere.

I think SIG or Carl Goldberg use to mention in their manuals that plans can shrink or in enlarge do the humidity.

Go back and look at post #27 I had horizontal stab issues too. I built per the plans and when I test fitted the vert stabilizer the angle was off! Easy fix and it was really the only issue I had with the kit.

I just glued up the vert stabilizer with 30 minute epoxy. Tomorrow I will add the decals to the wings, mount and glue the rudder in place, install the receiver, and do the final hook up to the servos. That should only leave balancing her with the 3s 2200 battery that I plan on using installed. I'll try to post some pics tonight.

Over on RC Groups a few guys mentioned to me that a power 15 hauls their Riser 100 almost vertical with a smaller prop to boot. Originally I was going to use a 480 1100kv motor but somewhere along the way decided on a power 25 with a 14x8 prop. Even though I cut some of the front fuse off I'm not sure how it will balance. If I get her to balance I'll maiden her the way she is being easy on the throttle, if she's nose heavy I'll need to use a smaller motor/prop setup to reduce weight I guess. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I checked that post and unfortunately when I clicked on the photos nothing came up.
Guess I'll just go ahead and build the horizontal stab according to the parts fit and go from there. It's not off by very much from the leading to trailing edge leaves a 3/32" difference from trailing to leading between the plans and the actual fitting. That is the stab is narrower by that much.
I don't believe it will make much if any difference at all.
Gonna go back through the entire thread just to more familiarize myself with this one.

Nice, very, very nice. But I rather have "Aliens Rule". One of my other signature's.

And on another note, I used a 11x6 folding prop on my Riser and it hauled it up will good.
Do you ever watt test your motor and prop? I usually do this to see if I'm in range with my motor and all. The Glider Drive 960kv has a range for props at (10.5x8 - 12x6).

The new redesigned site is not bad, but when you try to enlarge a photo, it goes to a black screen. I think we would have to go and replace all the photos again.

Now, onto the fuselage, someone on RCGroups told me not to knock out the last 2 pieces under the tail. He says it is a weak spot. So, on the next build of Riser 100 - 2, I will keep that in. The area in the yellow circle.

Okay I got the control surfaces done in time to watch the Kentucky Derby so I just need to balance the Riser and program her in my radio. I'm getting close to getting this thing done, here's some pics

Pork Chop, Looking at the photos of the problem between the stab and the fin, my build didn't turn out that way. Everything fits as it should. Who knows...maybe the folks at Sig discovered a problem and fixed it. I got my kit in March .

Default GP Spectra

Hey All;
I know this is not the plane to put here. But I am still working on the GP Spectra for my friend. I did not like how the original top and nose block look. So, I cut them off and started over on that part. The new top and nose block is a whole lot better now. It is shaped like it is suppose to be, or as close that I can get it. Also, I am working on the tail feathers too. Sanding them and getting them ready for covering. The wings are a another story, I been just to lazy to work on them. This project should have been done a Month ago by now. And I haven't been flying yet, just haven't felt like it.
Here is a couple of the new nose pictures.

I don't know I think it fits nicely your nose is similar to a Riser.
