Default June 27 and 28 - Thermal Duration Contest at my field - :D

Do you like flying glider contests? From winches? With a great bunch of people?

Well I know where you can find two of these on the same weekend. Syosset, Long Island, New York.

Glider Contest - Thermal Duration - June 27 and 28. All are welcome
This is LISF 1, the first of two Eastern Soaring League TD contest weekends hosted by the Long Island Silent Flyers.

We fly this as two one day contests so you can come Saturday or Sunday or both. You will see people flying moldies and woodies and maybe even some foamies.

We fly Expert and Sportsman classes. These count toward a season standing. And we fly Novice for those new to this kind of even. Novice fly FREE!

We have a large field, plenty of sky and a club that puts on a great contest. The LISF club members do all the work so you, the ESL pilots, get to sit back, relax and focus on your flying.

Ed's loooong range forecast is for beautiful skies, light breezes and lots of lift. So why would you want to miss it?

There will be 4 ESL winches with no retrievers. We pull the lines back with a tractor.

Etched mug trophies too!

We hope to see you there.

If you need a motel room here is a place where you can find a list of local places.

Two weeks to go and the LISF field looks great! 800X1600 feet with about 1/3 mile of overfly tree area on 3 sides.

We now have 18 pilots registered. I expect we will have around 25 for the contest.

I was at the field today and we got another great grass cut this past week. So, the field is in excellent condition for the contest. Fantastic!

FINAL WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE WEEKEND - LOOKING GOOD!

The weather reports for this weekend have been all over the place this week. The report has been steadily improving. As of now I believe we will have an great contest.

We had the field open for practice today and conditions were spectacular. Perfect weather for tuning and trimming. Those who attended got plenty of flights.

Weather for Saturday: Cloudy, high of 72. Winds from the ESE at 8 mph at 9 am going to 15 mph by 3 pm. Breezy but manageable. Chance of precipitation at 9 am just 1% going to 20% at 2pm and 30% at 3 pm. So we should have an excellent flying day on Saturday with a chance of a sprinkle that might effect the round.

Weather for Sunday: Cloudy, 80 with wind from the SW at 9 mph at 9 am going to 16 mph by 2 pm. 20% chance of rain at 9 am and holding at 20% throughout the contest.

So, overall not bad flying weather. We seem to have escaped the rain though we will have some breezy conditions at the end of the day each day.

We look forward to seeing you there.
