Default Protech Topic 400 Electric Sailplane

i bought a Protech Topic 400 on the recommendation of the local hobby shop owner.
The instructions are very sparse. They call for 7 cell 1100mAh cell but dont say what size. I put 7 cells in the designated space and found that the CG was way aft. A little experimentation and the battery weight to make it balance would be 455 g (16 oz). This is supposed to be a 870g air plane. What gives?
If I fly it in the current configuration, I am afraid of loss of control because the CG is about 1 inch aft.
What am I missing here?
Can anyone help?
The store owner is useless.
