Washout
Hello, I am starting to cut my own wings. EPP and Blue foam for glassing. I am building some 60in racers. I am going to make 3 wings for it, an MH32, RG15, and a RG14. I don't think any washout should be used should it? If any is needed, how much? Thanks for the help

RE: Washout
I can't think of any 60" slope racer with washout in the wings. Cut em straight!
Build the MH32 and the RG-15 light and make the RG-14 heavy. The 32 and the 15 perform better at lighter wing loadings(11 to 15 oz) while the 14 likes a heavier wing loading (16oz+)

RE: Washout
I started writing two different replies to this and then decided to stop guessing and go run the numbers on Foilsim. For a 5 x .6 foot wing running at 80 mph the Angle of Attack is only 0.2 degrees and the lift coefficient is only 0.036 for a 26 oz model. With angles like that I whole heartedly agree that you should not use any washout.
My other answers were suggesting that a degree of angle would help in the high G turns. It would but adding only 1/2 a degree of washout in FoilSim caused the airfoil to go to negative lift values. And that would really hurt your striaght line speed as the inner panes would be fighting the outer panels. So make it flat.... very flat..... in fact check at least 3 times.... If you have to err to one side or the other then a pencil line worth of washout would not be bad but don't make it any more than that.
