Scale Soaring
I want to get in to Scale Gliders. Is there any planes that are cheap!!!
I want to soar with some help of a tow. That just looks like so much fun.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks much,

RE: Scale Soaring
I go to scale aerotows pretty often and there are usually a few used models for sale there. That might be one option. Just like anything else, size, quality and features detemine cost. You should plan on attending one to get a good feel for scale and what is involved in aerotowing sailplanes. Don't know how far you would want to travel but there will be an aerotow event at Triple Tree (outside Greenville, SC) in October. Another event you might consider checking out is the JR meet in Champaigne, IL but I think the next one won't be until June 2005.

RE: Scale Soaring
I have been flying a 2.5m Ventus from Icare. It's a nice flying plane, and I have actually had pretty good luck thermalling it from a hi start (yes). I've got a big hi start with 100 yds of rubber and a whole lot of line. The biggest transition to this plane from the HLGs or Spirit type planes is that it is sooo much faster and MUCH less forgiving. It reminds me of the difference between flying a Cub vs. an Ultimate Bibe if you are into powered planes at all. It actually seems to have a sweet spot where it will slow down and "float", but it is finicky. I just have it set up with ailerons/flaperons, rudder and elevator. It seems like when you are ready to land it just keeps going and going and going and going......

RE: Scale Soaring
No, not selling. I'll probably keep this one. I don't really have the time to put into the larger scale planes. This plane performs well and looks great in the air. I kept it as light as possible. All sub micro servos. It's the standard size battery pack (like 4 double a's- whatever mA's that is?). With the battery pack shoved up in the nose I only had to add a small ammount of weight. Keep in mind, I'm using this plane for flatland thermal flying. No slope, no aerobatics.
