RE: wanted: dlg glider for an beg/int pilot
There is a list of dlg’s (and other popular sailplanes) at www.fatlion.com. That’s how I found mine. I have a Bobolink dlg from Arthobby. It’s a 1 meter dlg with foam-core wings, fiberglass fuselage, and carbon-fibre boom for less than $100.
I would recommend the dvd from radiocarbonart.com Hand Launch Pro Clinic. This has invaluable information on choosing equipment, building and flying the plane.

I flew with Ed Berg in Kansas this spring, and watched him fly one of his DLG's. I think it was called the Spinner. It's his own EPP design and could be what you're looking for:

The home page looks like it's under construction. Most of the menu links didn't show up when I tried to load it.

Slide your cursor over the menu items and read the descriptions in your browser's URL chooser bar. That's the only way I found I could navigate the site.

Check out:

Take a look at the Gambler+. For your $150 you might even get the kit, covering, and radio gear.

I received my plane late in the season so I never had a chance to fly it in warm enough weather to know if thermals well. I think that the 1.5m is a more optimum size for a dlg, large enough to thermal and small enough to hand launch. Arthobby also sell a 1.5m dlg, Hyper-DL. Gambler+ looks like a nice plane if you want to spend the time to build a kit. Whichever plane you get build it light as possible!

i think i found a winner. the great planes fling its is 48.75" wingspan weight 6.5-8 oz. and it comes with a mini highstart. i have read all kinds of stuff about dlg mods like a peg in the wing i want to know how it would do with ailerons though.
anyone have a fling, have you seen one with ailerons/ flaperons?

I had an Art Hobby Hyper DL and it was too heavy to thermal well. I hear the EPP foam spinner is heavy too. I've seen the gambler fly and it seems to thermal OK. Apachee from North East sailplanes is OK.
A little more money will get you a LOT more performance. The Longshot form Hobby club is a great mid priced plane ($250) that will put all the previous mentioned <$150 planes to shame in performance. In my openion, the next level to the $350 planes like XP4 does not buy the sport flyer that much more. If you are serious about getting a good flyer you can thermal out frequently consider shoping in the $250 range. I know it's painful - been there.

Take a look at the mountain models DL50. The kit is $70. Their reputation for making easy to build models that are great flyers is well known. I have been looking at this one for myself.

the zip from hobby-lobby is another possibility, but it comes with a balsa tail boom, that did not even last the first day out. i substituted a carbon fiber boom for it, and it works great. inexpensive ($79) but a good plane to see if you like dlg.
