RE: Tow Plane Suggestions
Hi
My friend and I are getting into aerotow and need your advice.
Tow plane : 40 size Jodel (low wing)
Will put 91 4 stroke engine for thrust
Sailplane : Haven't decided yet but will find something small like 70-80" wingspan.
Will modify to have ailerons and one wheel.
Questions )
1) Is the tow plane big enough ?
2) Where do I install hook in the tow plane when it's a low wing ?
3) Our run way is asphalt, how do we take off ?
Any other advice is appreciated !
Thanks.
Jake.

RE: Tow Plane Suggestions
Yes, the plane is big enough. The important thing is the thrust, and a .91 4-stroke could handle 2-meter sailplanes with no problem. The problem could be if the sailplane has a "slow" profile and the TUG is fast. Yhen some oscillation can happend if the line is hooked in at the nose center and the speed is too high.
Tow-hook should be appr at the trailing edge of the wing, right behind the canopy.
On asphalt the takeoff is no problem as long as you have a wheel on the sailplane. But scratches on the wingtip will occur... You can support the wingtip for the first few meters. Otherwise a trolley is a good thing.
