Need electric setup advice for Skimmer
I have a beautiful Hobby Lobby Skimmer that was given to me that I was going to sell but now I"m thinking of keeping it. What would be a good electric setup for this plane? I'm thinking of brushless? But am open to other options. If I understand correctly you don't need to rebuild brushless motors, they are lighter and more powerful. I want to keep it light as possible. Excessive power isn't needed. I just want it to be able to climb out and get some decent altitude. Money is somewhat of an issue but not the over riding factor as this is a plane I want to keep for a long time. I appreciate all the help!

RE: Need electric setup advice for Skimmer
I flew my Skimmer on a direct drive CEM 05 Cobalt, seven cells, don't rmember what prop for sure, but most likely a Graupner 7/3 or 4 folder. Plenty of power! I imagine one of the HiMaxx brushless motors would do fine. Any motor that could turn a 7/3 prop on seven cells or two LiPos should give you plenty of performance. My skimmer was my favorite built-up glider until the battery pack fell out. I got many 20-30 minute flights in thermal-less N.H.

RE: Need electric setup advice for Skimmer
The smaller Skimmer I"m pretty sure. 70" wingspan. I just want it to have a decent climb rate, doesn't need to go straight vertical, so I can do some nice gliding. If you have some setup advice I'd appreciate it!

Skimmer as noted has the 70" wingspan. Skimmer 400 is 60"
For a brushless setup, I'm using an AXI 221220 with a 9X5 folding prop and MP-Jet 40 mm spinner. WIth a 3s Lipo 1500 mah I'm pulling 16.5 A and turning 9400 RPM. It will go up at 70 degrees plus very nicely with an all up weight of 23.5 ozs.
Best thermal time on one power run is 49 minutes getting two good thermals. I did 15 minutes last Friday in bouyant air, no real thermal activity I could find [:@]
