Default Gentle Lady wing rib patterns?

I'm going to attempt to scratch build a Gentle Lady from the plans and instructions I have from a kit I built about 12 years ago (long gone!). The plans only show the rib pattern for the #9 rib. Where can I get the patterns for the other ribs? Especially the shorter ones in the outer wing panel? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you know you can buy a GL wing kit from racores.com? Better wing to.

I have 2 incomplete GL kits with most of the wing ribs, I would gladly send you for cost of postage.

astropuppy,

I'm really looking to build the balsa version and cover it in transparent monokote. Your offer for the incomplete kits sounds good. Let me know how I can get a hold of you (email?)

beaumiller,
The RAcores wing kit is balsa. It is a different airfoil then the kit version. http://www.racores.com/current_products.html#2MWings

sorry.....I assumed that it was a foam wing. Looks like something I might try in the future.

My offer on my incomplete kits still stands. I'd gladly send them to you for postage. They really are not worth anything; But the ribs would save ya some work.

I realize this is a pretty old thread but if anyone has the rib layout for a Gentle Lady I would like to get a copy of them. Or if someone has a better wing idea I'm game since I'll be scratching the wing out anyway.

It depends, do you want to fly slow and floaty like or do you like the idea of a very slightly faster cruise with some actual serious wind penetration? If so then the airfoils used on the Allegro Lite would be my choice. It means more balsa sheeting but the upgrade would be pretty awesome.

Google for "allegro lite" to get a link to the Charles River Soaring Club page on this model and its airfoils.

Dollars to doughnuts Carl just shortened the root rib to fit the outer panel lengths, kinda like this.
Then fit the spar cutouts as needed.

Sparky, I don't doubt it for a moment either. The airfoil he used has all the earmarks of those old Simplex logarithmic curves that produce the same shape when trimmed just as you show.

And certainly with all the covering sag between ribs distorting the shape anyway it would certainly be close enough.

And let's not forget the classic Florsheim 9% airfoil produced by tracing the outer sole of a vernerable size 12 dress shoe....

There is always the old standby http://www.rcmplans.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=1605. The plans are available from RCM plans.

Jim,
I have the plans. They just don't show all the rib details.

TP, So I print out your pic and its about 14 ribs short of what is needed as well as grossly under scale. Thanks for your help [:'(]

Bruce. I'm working on the info at CRSC.

Paul's sketch was intended to show you HOW to generate your own ribs for the tips, not the actual measurements. It would be up to you to measure off the marks and redo the locations of the spar notches.

The way to tell if this is how Carl did it would be to measure where the highest point on the root panel rib drawing is located and then measure off and draw the line for the last tip chord length. Measure from the new bottom like to maximum height point and see if it's the same % of chord. If it is then you can use his trick to draw all the tip ribs you need. And if it passes muster when the high point being within 3 to 5% of the proper chord point then you're good to go with that method. From there you just need to offer up the ribs to the leading and trailing edges and mark and cut the spar notches. It's more work but it won't take as long as waiting for ribs to arrive.

As I recall from the set of plans I have squirrelled away the tip ribs are not shown on the kit plan. And I seriously doubt that there are many folks around that would bother to trace them out during the building of the glider. So without buying the RCM scratch building plans it's either Paul's method or use a reducing photocopier to reduce the section shape and then mess with fudging the leading and trailing edge shapes. Frankly I'd suggest that Paul's method is the way to go if you want to keep the model faithful to the original because the photocopier will reduce the leading and trailing edge thickness too much to build easily even though it's a more accurate airfoil transition that way. If you do find that the high point shifts back a little too much on the tips then a few swipes with a long sanding block can reduce the rear of a bunch of the tip ribs all at once to shift the high point forward.

Herewith all the bits Uncle Carl don't want you to know about. I traced it on the back of my plan, to give you an idea of the paper size.

Happy landings

Vicman, I found my copy of February 1980 issue of RCM magazine. Article shows the wing and fuselage construction along with wing ribs.

Hi Could anyone give me the measurements for the two fuselage formers for a gentlelady? Dug out an old kit and of course the plans weren"t with it.
Thanks

I built the G.L. in the early 70's using wax paper, AMBROID and 5-min epoxy... I think "HOT STUFF" came out around 1975.

Do you still need plans for the Gentle Lady? I have the whole sheet scanned as a PDF. I am looking for rib patterns, which is not on the plans.
