RE: how do you build light ?
You can build light and still have strength. It comes from careful structural analysis and selection of material to suit the job. Also tapering from strong and rigid to weak and light in a tapered way to avoid sudden transitions that form stress points. It also comes from knowing where and what NOT to use. It's also important to avoid the urge to build strongly enough to resist crash damage. If you try to do that it'll certainly come out heavy enough that you'll find out just how well it does in that area. And actually light and flexible models actually will often resist crash damage better than heavier ones.
It also helps to build in a lot of air......

you need to take a couple of elements and knock them together, hopefully during the exchange you will kick off a photon or two. Viola instant light.
