HI all,
i have been flygin my glider (GP SPIRIT), for a long while now, and i have nothing but good things to say about it, except that it doesnt have ailerons. Ive grown to be a fan of ailerons due to my experiences with the TOwer traienr .46 and the GP EASY SPORT on the same engine. I now that thse are airplanes, but it gave me reason to believe that i like ailerons. I would like to purchase a pure glider with ailerons but i dont know what good or what isnt. I looked at the CONDOR VOODOO fomr hobby-lobby.com:
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/condor-voodoo.htm
I would have it built as a pure glider, but i have some questions, how cna i launch it? I have a standard high-start, but i think for this one, i will need at least a heavy duty one. WHat do you guys hink? I cant get a whinch becuase my club doesnt have one and they are really expensive, and so is the electric alternative.
Im looking forward to your replies,
THanks alot,
Samolot
My flying experience: About 0ne year in total, mostly powered flight, but getting into silent flight. Im a proficient flyer of glow power, and got my glider to do what its suposed to do. LOngest flight time, about ten minutes, which i had to end quickly due to weather.

An electrically boosted sailplane is designed for just that. Trying to modify it for line (hi-start or winch lauching) may result in instability on launching.
That said you could get a heavy duty hi-start and have a go at it. Just need some aggressive ailerons. About half the span and at least 20% of the cord. If the ailerons don't have the slow speed authority then don't bother with the hi-start launching. May need a strong winch.
I have a Mako full house that I use a heavy duty hi-start on. Whings it up pretty good. Not has high as a poly but good enough to have a shot at the average thermal.

Hi Samalot. Glad to see you are enjoying sailplanes.
Unelss there is something magic about this plane I would not recommend taking an electric plane and turning it to a pure sailplane right from the start. Why not get a pure sailplane that was intended to be flown that way.
Take a look on this page at NE Sailplanes

the Pasatt might be to yoru liking

Here is the Hi-start to launch these 3M gliders.

You will not like the heavy duty high start! For a 6lb. glider you need a winch, not that the hi start
can't launch it, but the tenshion is so great its tireing to use. Any electric glider could be modifed
to winch or slope, it just needs the same amount of nose weight as the electric motor. After all it
is a glider! If your young and have good eyes, pick a 2 meter. They are cheaper, and can be launched
with a medium high start. About 100 inch is about the max, if it is light.

Actually the Condor comes out of the box as a glider (take a look at the picture and description) and includes the pieces to modify it for power.
That said it is a bit heavy for a pure glider with a high wingloading.
You might look at the Art Hobby gliders especially the [link=http://www.arthobby.com/gliders.html]JKThermic[/link].
The mantis would be fantastic if you have the money.

Samolot,
Tall paul brings up a good point. I assume you know about the other Spirts in the GP line.
2M full house Spirit Elite
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXNH96&P=7
Spirit 100 Full house with flaps and spoilers
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJYP9&P=7
Other ideas for your consideraton:
The Harmony is a high performance sailplane featuring a fiberglass fuselage. The wing utilizes a HQ30/09 airfoil for a wide range of speeds and excellent flying characteristics. Long winglets help provide stable slow speed handling. Using a computer radio system, you can use the ailerons as flaperons or air brakes.

And I will reference my earlier post for the Mantis. You have not provided a budget so I ahve been staying in the same price range but if you have the money, the Mantis is a great plane. I want one myself.
