Default fiberglass reinforcement

I have a K & A Models 30" dago red glider. It has a fiberglass fuse that has to be the thinnest fiberglass I've ever seen. It feels like I could crumple the thing in my hands into a wad it's that thin! The manufacturer tells me it's normal, but I'd like to make it stronger and stiffer, any suggestions? the outside finish is great! Nice and smooth! So I gotta go inside. Access is tricky because the only opening is the wingmount.

Install the pushrod sheaths (gotta use sheathed type such as Nyrod or the wire in tube rods for this...) Then spray in "Great Stuff" 3X expanding foam. Use pushrod sheath for a replacement applicator tube... you need a LONG applicator.

If filling the entire boom... spray just a bit in, wait 20 min, inject a bit more... you have to go slowly in the narrow portions of the fuselage. Great Stuff CAN blow out the sides of the fuselage if you spray too much at once.

There is a new version of Great Stuff... high expansion (appx 4X) and low pressure of expansion. However, instead of a hard foam, it turns out a spongy foam, which is just a bit harder than the foam rubber we normally pack around the RX. I haven't tried that for stiffening. I have used it with success for fuel tank mounting in glow power planes.

The old version Great Stuff doesn't add much weight, but it sure can stiffen and strengthen a fuselage!
