Default Aero-naut Sinus info please !

Hi,
I picked up a 2nd hand Sinus kit at the weekend, its complete, beautiful molded epoxy glass fuz and balsa veneered wings with all cut outs etc, any way from what Ive seen it looks like quite an old model, any ideas how old ?.
The instructions talk about fitting a normal brushed 600 size motor and 8 cell pack. But intend to go brushless with a 3 cell pack, any ideas for a good motor ?
So what performance can i expect from it ?, I intend to fly from a flat field so will the Sinus be able to thermal or is it to heavy for that, and I'd be better of on a slope ? also the section looks prety thin so is it worth setting up spoilerons on it ?
Thanks
Martin
